Default Bumper shocks, are they a one time deal??

So i have the rear bumper cover off the car ( 84 euro)and the rear bumper shocks are both collapsed.
I put them in a vice and pried them open/extended again .
Now when i press them ( by hand) they will fully collapse and then will return if gently pulled. The WSM says to replace damaged parts so what does this really mean.
Anyone have any experience with these?

The mount that the aluminum bumper fits to seems to bend. I think that's why you need to replace them. I'm always amazed at the number of 928's with mis-aligned rear bumperettes - mine started that way, I got new ones, and then recently backed into one of my own cars, tweaking them again.

If yours are straight, I'd say keep using them. They are suppose to be 5 mile an hour bumpers after all, which means they shouldn't need replacing if they are otherwise undamaged.

If the Euro wasn't converted then the bumper mounts are a one time deal. If I remember correctly, the US version had a bumper shock kind of deal there..to meet the 5mph crash test..so if not hit hard, then they return to their original position. You can replace the US one with the Euro mount to save some weight....

US shocks were an option, ROW.

M058 - IMPACT ABSORBERS FRONT AND REAR

The ROW 'impact tubes' are designed to crush.

Much lighter than these. I think they may have sprung back when new, but the seals blow out when they are old? I wonder if they are (were) gas charged?

I talked with Roger about this he seems to think that the shocks are made to be soild and then when the shock has an impact then they will deform and then be able to be pulled back out .
However once they take a HIT then the shock will no longer provide a 5 mph protection since the shock collapses by hand. So I need another set of uncollapsed rear bumper shocks. My Euro has the 050 option thats the 5 mph bumper conversion

My experience has been that they are a one-time deal. Just replace them
