I'm afraid I won't make SITM this year. It's been a rough year and Linda and I need some time away from anything that as anything to do with any of our businesses

But I didn't forget what we discussed for your seats and we will get to it.

Any way I can get one of those armrest kits before SITM?
Hey David,

yes, they were able to recover about 90% of my templates and artwork

I'm afraid it's going to be a stretch to clear everything I have to do before I leave as it is.
Send me an email with the specifics (color, engraving etc.) and I will see if it's possible.

Remember the thread where we debated briefly the merits of various iPod-enabled head units? I didn't like the Alpine? Well, I don't really like the Kenwood too much either. The UI is pretty crappy. I like the UI on the old one better. But, no iPod interface.

Why oh Why do head unit UIs and appearances suck so much these days? The designers of these things need to be pistol whipped. Why does everything have to be done with one **** that you push, pull, turn, or hold down for 1.5 seconds? What happened to a few buttons that you could press without looking at them and taking your eyes off the road? Why does the display have to attention grab like neon signs in Tokyo? Why do they have 500 settings that are lost every time you disconnect the battery for want of $0.05 worth of non-volatile memory? Blech.

Dave/Paul - there are some very high friction materials that could be used as a base(maybe as a removable tray) that would account for any normal driving conditions with a device like an Ipod/iphone they would grip well... seems the most versatile solution - since it can accomodate any shapes and doesn't easily get obsoleted.

Seriously, there is a market for this but the stereo companies haven't a clue. Maybe we should go into business designing and buidling? Wouldn't be a first for a Boston based audio company to make it big.

Hey Alan,

that would probably be an excellent solution for most people, but not really my cup of tea. At least for my own box, I would want a recessed cavity of the exact shape, lined in suede. Pretty much like I would do for a gun case.

Probably not the cheapest or easiest solution, but a bit prettier

Well you were talking about the older first gen Alpine IDA-x001 right? Seriously, go to a Bestbuy, they stock the x100, its a much nicer unit, the controls are much better, the buttons have a much nicer feel and the unit itself just looks a whole lot better. The 001 looks more then just a year older next to the x100.

What HU are you using anyway?

I just want a nice BLACK head unit with an SD slot and I'd be happy.

Check Clarion, they have a pretty cool HU that looks like it has shark gills and it uses an SD card slot for MP3's. No CD drive at all. You can pick them up on Ebay for $130 shipped. I dont know the part number its some stupid number letter sequence but look on clarion.com and you will see what i'm talking about.

I saw that one but read some reviews that said it was like a dark brown, not a black, especially after being in the sun. Anyone here have it for real? I've got an all black interior and brown would stand out like a sore thumb.
