As per Ken from his web site and Roger...

"Timing belt is always properly tensioned for less wear on gears, and water pump. Real dampening makes the engine run quieter, smoother, and keeps the cams better synchronized. Uses stock timing belt cover. Fits 78-95! (78-79 w/80-up or no A/C pump)

Sprung/hydraulically dampened tensioner, steel bushings at all pivots. Subsequent belt changes normally only require the pulley to be replaced. All other 'idler' pulleys can be deleted. Air pump (fan tensioner) version has a removable front bracket to make pump installation and removal easier."

After holding one in my hand...and after Ken and others testing for years. I am very comfortable using this instead of Porsche's dated design. Its not adjustable nor can it "leak" out.

Ok so how does the belt get tensioned???, Is the tensioner put on in a preloaded state?. I must admit i dont know much about the Ptensioner.
What is the belt tension with the belt /tensioner installed, if it was measured?

The Audi tensioner comes pre-tensioned. There is a pull pin instaled...When the tensioner is mounted and belt is routed and cams gears are right....you pull the pin. Instant tension. Check his web site www.liftbars.com
Also Roger at www.928srus.com is the sole distributor. Great guy. Call him at 817-430-2688 he is in Dallas TX.

Not sure about a measurement on tension...maybe Ken or Roger could tell you.

High edge of the Kempf tool window. You have to measure it quickly as it compensates for the belt twist (overtension) in a few seconds.

The tensioner reacts immediately to low tension as the belt moves past it, EG. when starting a cold engine. It reacts slowly to overtension, whereupon it retracts to keep the tension constant. There is a dampening range where flutter is absorbed.

It's actually a tensioner, versus the factory 928 unit, which is a detensioner. The greatest challenge for the factory (de)tensioner is cold starting. The idler pulleys are there to keep the belt from popping off during low tension events. Note that they are not even idler pulleys, as they are not normally in contact with the belt. Guide pulley would be a better description.
