Default broken fuel pump terminal

The title says it all. The fuel pump works fine. I was fixing a fuel leak and had to remove one of the fuel pump electrical terminals to get at it. All was fine until I went to tighten the terminal and it broke off almost flush. From the looks of it, it had been cracked a long time. I have never touched it before, so the PO is to blame.

Anyway. Is there any way to hard wire it or do I have to blow $200 on a new pump? Does anyone else have any options?

Thanks

I busted a fuel pump by stupidly turning one of the terminals. Never found a way to open the pump to fix the internal wire that I must have twisted and broken. If I were you, I'd look for a used pump if you aren't interested in buying a new one. If you do get a used one, you assume the risk of another failure soon.

Is this a spade connection or a screw connection? If a spade, I would try to solder a short lead on to what's left and use some electrical RTV to insulate it. If a screw connection can you drill and tap the screw for a much smaller screw? Worse case senerio is you get it soldered and it breaks off when your out in no-man-land.

I thought about soldering, but I don't like the idea of doing it anywhere near fuel, even with the pump out of the car.

you might be in store for a new pump , But you could always try to solder a screw onto the fitting thats left. With the pump out of the car just blow some compressed air through it for a few mins till the fuel vapors bleed off .
Other than that the pump cant be opened as this will destrpy the O ring seal at the other end, dont put the pump in a vice or drop it as the permanent magnets will crack, I would not try drilling the fitting either as this could damage the seal and for that matter so could soldering . Good luck.
