Default Central warning light on......

Can't be too specific as car is currently having transmission rebuilt, but i've noticed my central warning light has come on when i started her up, but there was no accompanying t-belt, park etc light. The light extinguishes if i press the reset button and doesn't come ack on until i restart the car. Park brake is off and there are no obvious signs like a bulb blown. Any ideas as all my handbooks are in the car.

Do you have access to a Spanner Diagnostic Tester? It should work on '87 and later cars (me thinks).

When you turn the key on but don't start it, you should compare the warning lights on the dash with the ones in the appropriate page in the owner's manual. That's how I found out that my tail light warning bulb was blown out in the pod.

I'm pretty sure all MYs work this way, but maybe the S4s are different.
