From: In the boatyard installing the mast and engine, we don't need a crane, we harness the mesquito's! Yeah!
I just finished the TB, WP, and tensioner rebuild on a friends car earlier this week. What started out as a "sure I'll help - you buy the beer, and I'll stand back and supervise"
Ended up being a one on one session with his car
It only took a couple months - every bit of my "spare" time. A couple wrong parts here and there - eBay "specials" - and just unable to get us both away from work at the same time.. etc. etc.
Anyway.....
Once I had it all buttoned up - I pulled the coil wire and cranked until the oil pressure came up. I then installed the coil wire and cranked again, no start...
WTF - The car ran great when it came in the garage. So I figured maybe I flooded it when I was cranking. It was late at night and I had to be up the next day at 4:30 am - so I did the most sensible thing, I had a rum and coke and said "forgetaboutit".
Well after working a couple of shifts, I returned - (48 hrs later) - shouldn't be flooded by now....
I re-checked the TB tension and cam allignment, everything looks great.... Cleaned the engine grounds, get back in and crank again, nothing. The car turns over great, good compression and every thing, but it just won't fire.
Everything lines up - I've got spark, the fuel pump runs, but the engine just won't run.... I did get one little Brawamba - and then death.....
Time to do the alarm dance - lock the car - open the trunk - lock the car from the port side... unlock from the starboard side.... lock again, unlock - roll down the window and open the door with the inside handle... I know this dang alarm has cycled by now.....
Ok - give it a try and
NO START!
You ever had a moment when you just wonder why the heck you offered to help out - this ain't goin the way I want it to?....
Who is it that says when trouble shooting start with the basics?
How right you are
What would your next step be?
I knew this car was well sorted out - no problems to be found - and I figured it was time to go back to the basics and make the most sensible investment......
I added $9.28 worth of gas...
and she started right up....
Ain't no sense in being stupid unless you can prove it
Just remember - K I S S and
Back in the slow lane

Yes Sir - and when I called to report the progress...
"Oh yeah - I knew it was almost out...."
The front end was still lifted on the stands and ramps so I guess the fuel intake is in the front of the tank?
At least I didn't add the 15 gallons I removed from my 911 when I finally got it running after 2 years.

Good Job C.Mike!! That sounds like something I'd have happen to me - 'cept without all of the technical mechanical abilities & I'd still be wonderin what was wrong with it! You sure that you didn't put some of dat rum n coke in 928's tank & not just yours?

moment!
