Question Torque Converter Housing

OK so I'm in the middle of a tranny swap on my 82 US Auto and need some advice....

I have the torque converter housing off both of the trannies and I know the WSM states to remove the TC housing from the old tranny and transfer to the new to maintain factory adjustments.

Maybe my questions would be best in list form:

1) When it says to put the old TC housing on the new tranny does it mean just the housing or the entire assembly?
2) What about the TC? Does it matter which one I use?
3) Both coupler plates have notches out of them I assume this is for balancing? If so how does that play into the equation? Is the balancing just for the plate? or TC as well in which case I'd need to keep the each TC with its TC housing?(see pics)
4) Rebuilt TT from 928 INTL has a drive shaft that is a little different in that it doesn't have a notch and my old one did. I can't see where this is a problem but thought I should check (see pic)

I'm changing out the TC bearings and want to make sure I do it on the right housing.

Thanks for the help!

if your old torque converter was working i would transfer it, since the new used one may be in question the cut outs you have pictured are balancing cuts
The driveshaft looks like the updated version. If you do swap things you should also replace the front pump O ring and the torque converter radial seal and add some vaseline to the bronz bushing just inside the radial seal so the torque converter doesnt seize onto the bushing

Mrmerlin...doing everything you suggested and have new TC from Edge. My main question is which TC housing to use and do I keep the drive plate with the respective housing? I guess what is throwing me off is the WSM stating I need to transfer the old TC housing to the new trans. I'm trying to figure out if that applies in my situation b/c at this point everything from the engine back is being replaced.

I would use the parts that look the best/ cleanest.
I am not sure about factory measurments as far as they apply to your situation

I think the part you might be getting hung up on is the WSM is looking at replacing just the trans, but your concidering changing alot more. since all components were originaly balanced to each other, id try and keep as many mated parts with thier original mated parts.

so if everythings in great shape but the trans, then attatch the old flex plate and TC to the rebuilt TT ( the plate and TC were balanced togeather ...with the drive shaft and front plate IIRC )

Ill be doing alot of this my self soon....not changing the trans though.

OK...so I have the AT pump removed and have a few questions.

1) the bronze inner bushing has some places that look like it got hot and also some rough spots (see attached picture). Should I smooth those out, replace it, or not worry about it. I also have another trans here...I guess I could remove the pump and see what kind of shape that one is in.

2) Are there any other seals that I should do while I'm in there? My plan is to leave the rear converter-trans body paper seal alone. That means the only two left are the pump o-ring and the TC radial seal...correct?

3) I'm replacing the front converter housing bearings...how about the rear converter housing bearing? I can't recall seeing anything about it during my Rennlist readings.

4) Mrmerlin...where would I get the Dow Corning 111?

Thanks,
Jeremy

dow corning can be purchased at Motorsport in Utah you also want to replace the front pump O ring and the radial seal, That broze bushing should be OK but i would check the other front pump first . of course you want to use the best looking pieces The DC111 is great for the Orings and a host of other preservations on the 928
