Default Another good Sears alignment

After doing my oil pan gasket the hard way and installing steel ball joints, I decided to give Sears a try for an alignment. having read about the "challenges" here, I visited them ahead of time, met with the alignment tech and explained the idiosyncracies of doing a 928 alignment.... I was very surprised to find him receptive and eager to try it. We decided to do it on a slow day so they could take their time and that day was today.

As luck would have it, that tech was not in and the tech doing it today was less enthusiastic....no- combative about not lifting the car (unloading the settled suspenion). After some rather heated discussion and his failure to understand- I got him to agree to roll it instead of lifting and skip the ride height adjustment. I was really nervous becuase this guy was just so arguementative and could not understand the no lift provision- repeatedly saying " you have to lift it to change a tire- - so your telling me doing that is going to change the suspension geometry and wear out the tire?- BULL!" He never got that the suspension will settle and correct itself...just not immediatly while trying to perform adjustements.

Anyway- he did it ( I watched, which probaly chapped his ****)- took his time and got everything in spec front and back... and every corner needed it- It cost me more than the $69 they quoted me but after driving it... it was well worth the $100. I'm actually very surprised at how much better it feels.

Those Sears Techs can be crappy to deal with. The ones here told me to take mine to the Porsche dealership.

John--

The Sears alignmnet comes with a nice guarantee that allows you to return to the 'scene of the crime' and get the alignment rechecked. Go drive it for a month and bring it back for a little verification, maybe with the guy you started with at first.

I was more than impressed with the way my first DIY alignment dramatically improved the feel of the car, sompared to my first 'commercial' alignment at a highly-recommended area shop. Getting it tuned that last little bit to "just right" makes all the difference in the world in the way the car drives and feels. Enjoy!

Several people in C-bus know of the the 'one' good Sears tech that knows how to align Porsches. We follow that guy everywhere. It takes me 30 minutes to get there but definatly worth the $89!!
