Youtube Vid. 928 vs 80's brethren

I wish! I am too busy making other people go fast to play with my own toys. Springtime, when every Porsche owner wants their toys upgraded, fixed or modified...RIGHT NOW! I am getting cars in and out as fast as I can and the line just keeps getting longer. I am probably going to have to retire to get back into racing myself.
I do maintain a 951 that plays on the salt flats and a couple that run at Miller Motorsports Park but none of them play in ORR. Hell, we have two Turbo S caged chassis sitting here at the shop doing nothing other than taking up space. All the parts are there to assemble them just no time to put them together let alone race them. I have a 79' no-sunroof 5-speed 928 that I want to develop for Miller's to play with the 911 guys heads but it's pretty far down on the to-do list. (2400# and 350ish rwhp, should be fun!)
BTW, spank away...I'll be glad to sell you some 3.0L parts and a 2.7L head to build after your car decides that high rpm, high boost for an extended time is not a nice thing. The most sucessful FAST ORR cars are low rpm, high horsepower, tall geared cruisers...like a 928! What kind of rpm would you be turning to maintain 150mph? Oh, wait...to do a 150mph average you would need a tech limit of 168mph. Can a 951 even do that? There are several stock 928's that do...with the A/C on! (I felt like stirring the pot a bit...lol)

Here is an in car video of one run - 148.8 fighting some heavy head winds that day http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/f...44T_148mph.flv
That said the new setup (in progress) should remedy that laying down in 5th B.S. You can bet your *** it'll be good for 168mph no problem!

your joking right...I will try again - 5200RPM fellas - a 944T will do 5200RPM ALL DAY LONG..... event after event after event....... Not a stretch, no problem

Added: oh yeah I I almost forgot... 928s are still big fat pigs yada yada yada
Also just for info sharing - the USFRA 150 club is what I ran. For 150 cars the timing is done at the 2.25 mile mark, not the 3, 5, or 7.
I would highly suggest anyone with any interest in salt/ land speed racing give this class a try. You can get your feet wet with salt/land speed racing and can run anything, even your daily driver(with safety gear). Tons of fun, great people, and all intended for your street car. Minimal safety gear required and did I say FUN, so much sun your gums will be sunburned from smiling so much.

2bridges,
I'll be at the Bonneville 100 this year running in the 170 mph avg class with an unlimited tech limit.
It's probably too far for you to come out and play again, but it'd be nice to see a 944/951 come out
and join us. By the way, I have one of the motors Dave built.
ps, that's 100 miles at a 170 mph avg...

170 average- yeah that is pretty hard core in my book
That event must be a bunch of long long straight stuff.
I really enjoy the road race stuff (lots of corners) - but that sounds like a good time to me!

challenging road. Here's a video from last year's 160 mph run.

Those long distance high speed runs are a true test of a cars reliablity. Its like a track day on steriods especially if you are talking high heat, high boost applications.
I've never seen a 944turbo run 170-180mph for 100 miles before. I don't know if one could. I suppose its possible with enough time and developement on oil coolers, trans coolers, radiators, ect. Everything would need to be beefed up to run low engine/trans/turbo temps at sustained high speeds.
Its why the autobahn has been such a great test bed for porsche for so many years. When I was driving the s4 back from virgina I sustained 130-140mph for 50-60 mile sprints in tenn.(atleast I think that was the flat state).
Miles and miles of nothing and no one and flat roads. It was crazy. Damn s4 was bone stock and felt sooo comfortable at a buck forty. All day long dude. Damn I need a 928. I gotta have the best of both worlds.
pssst don't tell anyone I ever said that

I got up to 186 mph a little further down the road. I stopped the recording there
because at around 180 mph the tape on the drivers side windshield let go and
starting slapping the side window, making a loud sound that was picked up by
the video. I was hoping to go faster, but I had an electrical problem. When I
hit the WOT switch (2/3-3/4 throttle), the engine would go very rich, and bog.
So I had to stay in open loop mode to keep the car running. It turned out to be
the MAF plug was not seated correctly... As it was, I still finished that leg
at a 160.16 mph average.

I'd be great to see another Porsche out there. We are out numbered by the
Corvettes by 3 or 4 to 1...
By the way, here is the video of the speed trap run, this is right after the last
video ended:

Not as exciting as going through the curves.
