Remove the sunroof mechanism. This of course requires that the sunroof (I got a custom-made moonroof) be fixed in the "close position". Gained nearly 2-inch of headroom. Really made a big difference in the actual and felt headroom.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the inputs.
Update !!!! I am 6.6 tall and fits a 928 S4 without sunroof perfectly.
In my "ideal" sitting position in a 928 S4 with sunroof my hair touches the roof. I assume, or actually pretty sure, that the seats are in it's lowest position.
I think that the extra inch gained by moving the seats to rearmost mounting holes, could solve this for me ???
Is it easy to identify and do the "fix". Something I should know or be aware of ???
NeverLateInMyNineTwoEight !
Cutting down the mounting rails !!!!! do you have some sort of illustration or picture that shows exact where to cut ??? (do the modification)
Thanks again
I will keep your posted.
Maybe I should just go for a 928 S4 without sunroof. The problem is that I then have to go to Germany or Sweden and find one.

3. Modify stock seat: cut mounting rails down, cut down the seat foam on both the seat bottom and seat back. Somehow re-adjust the leather (I would think it would be very difficult to do this). If you go this route, as someone else suggested, buy another one and modify that one, leave the original as is in case you ever sell the 928.

After test-driving a bunch of auto cars with sunroofs, I realised pretty quickly that "no sunroof" was just as important to me as "manual gearbox". The other things I could sacrifice on and not regret it.
Keep looking - as you're near Europe, you have a good selection of well maintained 928's available without sunroof.. its much easier to find there than in USA or Australia

I added about 1-1.5" of headroom by modifying the seat mounting rails. Not the rails that attach to the seat but the rails that are part of the floor.
This isn't for the faint of heart and does require cutting and welding but it worked in my car (1981-manual seats). I'm not sure you could get away with this if you have power seats.
Just another option..

For you Momo wheel guys:
Ebay Momo Hub Spacer
I just installed it on my Momo at Hershey. 6 Allen bolts to detach old wheel. 6 included long bolts to re-attach spacer+steering wheel.
Did unplug battery cause those horn leads will activate whenever it grounds to the wheel frame.
No association with seller. Just glad their selling them.
Will mean a slightly longer reach to the indicator/wiper stalks.
Hardcore 928 owners hack a spinal vertebrea or two to fit in a 928.

It's worth doing, but don't expect a huge difference.

Sorry, I don't have any information on this. I have just heard of other's mentioning it. When I changed out my seat, I took a look at underseat structure, and the structure of the seat rails that are on the floor, and decided it would be too much work, and would be almost impossible to put the car back to stock without doing a huge amount of work.

For my next 928, I will be looking for a sunroof delete 85-88, but it is unlikely I will find one here in the US, so I will end up putting in some nice Recaro or Sparco seats. The Sparco A4 comes in black Alcantra, so I will be getting those for the S4.

The Sparco fixed back racing seat is night and day. I can sit much more upright, I can adjust the leg room just the way I like it, and the shifter and steering wheel (deeply dished Momo) fall right to hand. I love it! I can't believe I didn't do this mod sooner.
But, as I mentioned, getting in and out of the race seat is a real pain, and the Momo steering wheel looks a bit low-brow. I'll be replacing the Momo with something a bit more inline with the 928 interior.
And just for reference, I'm 6'6". 36" arms. 36" inseam. Currently 210 lbs or so.

They should have broke the mold after the '85 5-Speed was made. It just doesn't get any better!
