Didn't think anyone tries to gap the multi-electrode plugs.

I remember running the Bosch triples on my old Audi and the center electrode wore into a rounded triangular shape. Pretty cool.

Regular plugs create axial spark.
The multi-electrode plug sparks perpendicular to the axis of the plug.
How that affects the flame front in the combustion chamber I know not.

Smaller spark plug makes it easier for a weak system to jump the spark gap, no?

Does anyone still index their regular style plug to 'direct' the spark?

Hacker,
Who farted in your Cheerios this morning? 8>)

That was a genuine question and I was hoping to learn from your answer.
I think Porsche got it wrong a number of times.
Hydraulic motor mounts - cork oil pan gaskets etc etc.
Maybe not wrong at the time just that technology has moved forward.

The question of the GTS plug came up in the GTS pinging thread and ever since I have been trying to locate the plug at a reasonable price because planty of people asked for them. The NGK alternative is a 6 if that helps the situation. Maybe the slightly colder plug may help the pinging.

Maybe it was a "sell" job at the time to use the 3 electrode plug. But that is what is specified.

I remember when I first bought my GTS being told by a well know 928 expert that I should use the
Plat 4's.

NGK heat ranges are opposite of Bosch, AFAIK.

Hot
Bosch 7 = NGK 5
Bosch 6 = NGK 6
Bosch 5 = NGK 7
Cold

Kewl! More things to argue about.

Synth oil. Mobil 1. Dino oil.
Single prong plug. 3 prong. 4 prong.
Which brand gas.

If it go sparky sparky. Don't make engine ping. Use it.
The 3 pronger seem to have more electrode area to wear away so can be left in
the engine longer without pulling to re-gap like a vanilla plug.

I'll stay away from the Splitfires.

Colder spark plugs can help cut down on detonation. Only advantage to a hotter spark plug is emissions, same goes for the hotter stock thermostat.
+1 - the hotter plug warms up a few seconds faster, but after that, there is no reason for a 7.

With 5's, my '86 chugga-chuggas when started from dead cold for up to 10 seconds depending on the outside temp. After that, though, it makes more pow-wa.

WR5DC+ (+ = v notch in electrode) If I had the coin, I'd get WR5DS (silvers).

Thanks Ken,
See I am learning 8>)
Hence the NGK6 is a direct alternative to the Bosch 7

Also, the different plug makers' heat ranges are on different scales. So a Bosch 7 might cross to a NGK 6 depending on the plug.
