Question Rims Rubbing 18" Need some suggestions???

Just got a killer set of factory 18" 5 spoke light weight 911 rims from a 2000-2003

265 on the rear and 225 on the front.

Look amazing, but bumps are cutting into the front tires.

And suggestions??

What I have thought of:

Roll the fender inside to make the edge rounded, making more room and if it hits, would cut.

Raise spring collar (don't like that, looks nice they way it is, but not much room for suspension travel)

Take the rims to a machine shop, and machine off 1/4" so the offset goes in a bit (expensive, and might damage rims??)

Machining is not an option unless you can figure out a way to add the metal to the othere side... the one where the nuts are normally. Machining that inside face removes the metal that normally is held on by the nuts.

What are the heel sizes and the offsets? Should be on the rim near the valve stem.

Just drive slow so it doesn't rub. Nice score on the wheels!

What year is your 928? What is the offset of the rim?

I'm running 235/40-18 on my track car that I guarntee is lower than your car and no rubbing unless I hit a bump at full lock. This with early control arms too. I have a feeling the offset of your front wheel is 45-50 or more. Stock is 65 - the lower the number the further out the wheel goes.
Mine are 57.

No - let me rephrase that - No.

There is only 1/2" of meat between the lug nut and the hub (on OEM wheels). So if you have an ET50 wheel & want to reach the stock 67 that would mean taking off 17mm or .67 inches......see a problem here? There is only .5 inches to work with.

Even taking off 5mm would cut down the mating surface by almost 50%

I suspect you're running a 45ET front wheel. You really need a minimum of 50ET. You can try rolling the fender, but I'm not too sure how well the aluminum/paint with will take it. Machining is NOT an option.

I had the inside lip of my 79 front fenders ground off.

This was just before they were to be painted anyway, paint was already chipped from the tire hitting it (previous owner but huge rubber in the front )

This pic was titled Negative Spacer. Is that a slide-on fitment, Jim?

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but maybe sell the wheels to a carrera owner and get some more 928 friendly offset wheels. But don't listen to me. I seldom do.
Thought the 996 and 997 5-spokes fit the 928. Especially with 225 width tires.

What's the part number and price for those? Also do they come with the muffler bearings or is that extra?

x2.

Sell 'em and get better fitting wheels. Lots of nice wheels with more 928 friendly offsets popping up on Craigslist on a regular basis. That's where I scored both sets of mine. 18" turbo twist replicas, and factory Cup II's in almost mint shape. The Cup II's were stupid cheap, I couldn't believe it.

Good luck. -Ed

Well I won't macine them, that's for sure!

And I will not sell them, they look way too amazing! I'll make them work

What the heck is a reverse spacer?? How does that work?? I can understand that pic at all.

Would love to add pic's, but don't know how.

Here are the specs, I'll look up the "heel sizes" tomorrow

Hello this is a used original set of 18" Chrome Carrera Lightweight wheels. They are off a 2003 996. Sized (2)18x8et 50mm and (2)18x10et 65mm for 993/996 narrow body cars. The wheels are in great condition with very minor blemishes that are very hard to see. Center caps are included.

The fronts are 225/40/18 Continental Sport Contact II the rear are 265/35/18

This is the exact same rims, and the same car (I also have the GTS mirrors and painting wing)

Mine is 1988

Have not had a chance to take a pic with the new rims yet, but will look identical to this pic

Strange, more than a few 928 owners (Randy V is one of them) run those wheels with no issues.
