Default Noisy Fuel Accumulater/79 928

On my '79 928 5 spd, the fuel accumulater sounds like a serious vacuum leak is going on. I replaced it with a new one...same noise. I replaced the vacuum lock assembly in the passenger door first, erroneously thinking that was the noise. It comes and goes, but now it seems to be getting worse.
I recently replaced the fuel pump in the gas tank...that made no difference.
Do I need to replace the main fuel pump?
Any fuel pressure checking that I should do..and where?
All comments welcomed...

You should be able to easily hear if the main fuel pump is going bad. It's easily accessbile from the rear and you probably can just put your ear to it.

Vacuum leaks sound to me like high pitches 'whistle' sounds.
Fuel pump would be making more of a mechancial buzzing sound since there is no vacuum hooked up to it.

Do you have your 'sounds' correctly identified?
