Default U.S. Express. Winner in a Porsche 928

This is a trailer for the movie 32:07 . It is about the nonstop rally run from New York to L.A. that was completed in 32hrs 7 min. There is some footage of the 928 that was used in the rally and actually won once. Hopefully the movie will have some more info on this car. I know there have been some questions about this car but never really any answers.

BTW, the record now stands at 31:04 by Alex Roy ( Team Polezei Fame). He actually helped to finance the completion of the film.

Here's the Alex showing the car he used for his record run. BTW, he uses a Valentine V1 . Since he is a superdelegate in the "which radar detector is the best" poll, I think the argument is settled.

I have been following this with great interest. I recently read Alex Roy's book, The Driver, and it is an excellent read.
I remember setting a couple of my own personal driving records. Two in particular are Cincinatti to Pittsburgh in 3 hours, 45 mins - took me almost two full summers to break the 4 hour mark (ave speed was 88 mph, and I did this in the summer of 1980, in an Olds Cutlass). The typical time at the proper speed limit was 6 hours. The other one was St Louis to Pittsburgh in 9 hours flat back in 1983. That took me about a year to finally do that time - maybe a dozen trips. Again, it was typically an 11 hour + trip.
I always enjoyed these drives, and I sometimes wonder if any of these secret runs still exist. In those days, I didn't have anything even approaching a car like the 928. I'd love to see what I could do with a car like that! Don't think it would work now, too many other cars on the road now.

As long as we have stupid limits, there will be people trying to break them and find ways of not getting caught. The cat and mouse game will continue, with tougher and tougher measures from law enforcement. 1984 doesn't seem so far away anymore - in Western Europe there is photo radar almost everywhere. It's just a matter of time when this catches on over here. Sadly.

Looking forward to seeing this film

People soon learn where the fixed units are and drive accordingly.

There is a bit of a spat going on in Basel. The local council have authorised money to install 10 new photo/radar cameras "to improve safety" and the Police chief is refusing to install them - he says "not effective to improve safety"

www.32hours7minutes.com

There is also a book about the most recent record breaking run by Alex Roy called "The Driver". It also has some info about the Gumball 3000.

Alex Roy was on Car Crazy for a few minutes last night with Barry Maquire talking about his run. He had so much technical gadgetry it was amazing, AND he had a cover plane following him the whole way to run intel. He said his avg speed was in the 90mph range. I've seen him one other time showing info from it, I know he had to wait a year or so till the statute of limitations ran out on being prosecuted after the fact once he came forward with his story.

The chase plane was only used in limited amounts because of weather and scheduling.

Read the book Mel. It is a great read.

Heinrich my friend, your face popped into my mind as I was writing that. I distictly remember weaving through traffic on the on ramp to I-4 with you in the passenger seat and you saying " You know, you really should invest in a good radar detector". I'm glad you don't have any tickets. So far, I don't either {knocking on wood}.

Lol, 90 mph avg speed. I know that's insane in the US, but any given sunday morning everybody is doing that over here (and yes, we have lots of fixed speed traps here in holland I'm going to court of my own accord in 2 weeks for a fine! )

Its an AVERAGE speed of 90. That means the fuel stops ( zero MPH ) are factored into that #.

A prominent 928 rennlister did 100mph average from seattle to san diego, one shot. fuel stops counted as travel time. No other stops.

I did it in 29:04. It took me 82 tries, a +10 cloak of invisibility, a 300 gallon fuel cell, and four clone decoy cars.

Whoo hoo! Give me the fame and attention I deserve everyone!!!
