I was having a issue with my headlights as well and replaced the headlight and foglight relay and still had problems then I replaced the X relay and everything works. You might want to replace the X relay as well. Just a thought. Mark

Yes - we covered this in post #8... Not sure if it was ever tested though...

The auxilliary high beams (driving lights) are switched directly by the combo switch - while the main headlights (if up) are switched to high beam through the headlight relay.

The headlights on/off is one relay/contact set followed by another contact set for beam select that directs that power to either high beam circuit or low beam circuit. I assume in high beam mode your low beams just stay on?

This sounds like the combo switch doesn't work - since the wire to the relay from the combo switch is the same for for both of these modes.

This may be a silly question judging from the expertise of your previous posts, but do you happen to know what colors/wires I am looking for if I open up the dash switch and pod motor?
Sounds like you will need a new combo switch or could attempt to fix the one you have - its likely fixable...but fiddly.

To the other question - I'd actually suggest you check it at the relay socket - it will be easier - pull the relay then proble into the relay socket - use a quick disconnect male 1/4" terminal to do this easily. Test Socket 86 - this should be the high beam (12v for high beam, ignition on).

Socket X should be 12v with the ignition key in accessory & ignition positions. This is required for the pods to go down...

Socket 30b1 must be 0 ohms to ground to make the pods go down (+ X terminal must be active & the light switch in off position). Test with an ohmmeter - this is from the the limit switch in the pod motor (so make sure the pods were up before you pulled the relay) with the pods down this should be open circuit.

Socket 56S must be 0 ohms to ground to make the pods go up (+ light switch in 2 position & X terminal active). Test as above - this is from the the limit switch in the pod motor (so test with the pods down. With the pods up this should be open circuit.

Alan:

Again thanks for the great info. The car was repainted before I bought it. It was a total glass out/doors off and I believe pods out affair. So I guess it is possible that some wiring could have been screwed up when they put it back together. It looks like I will have a bunch of troubleshooting to do this weekend. I must have missed the part about the X relay. What does this have to do with the headlights? My cheat sheet says it is for the fresh air blower. Again thanks for all the insight.

OK its not the relay in slot X its the "X-Relay" in slot IV (confusing I know).

Everything in my last post referenced the headlight relay - testing terminal X of the headlight relay is the initial test I wanted you to do for the X-Bus function.
