Default cost per...?

Interesting presentation of money spent. I've only had the car four months, so total cost of ownership is pretty skewed, even with my 3,200 dollar purchase price. The parts prices so far are approximately 100 dollars per month for the first 4 months, the majority of it on new Kuhmo front tires. Comparitively speaking I think I've gotten off easy so far:

-Trans fluid/filter
-Oil/filter
-spark plugs
-gas filter,
-Front tires
-coolant
-misc. interior tidbits...

, but now that things are updated and stabilized, (except my fourth gear), the car should only need elective cosmetic fixes. If not, maintaining a car for 100 dollars per month is significantly more than the cost of the Benz and my wife's Toyota Highlander...

Sadly, I've stopped using my car as a daily driver, but I am enjoying it just as much as the day I purchased the car, in fact, I'll probably take a long ride today...

Last new vehicle I bought was a SUV in 2002...after the loan interest it came to about $700.00 a month. Thats adds to about $40000.00 for a vehicle that has a value of about $9,000.00 today...a TOTAL LOSS of $31000.00 over 5 years. Even that car had repair bills in that time frame totaling about $2000.00 ( TB, WP, alternator, front wheel bearings ) That worked out to be a total LOSS of about $550.00 a month for the time I owned the car. IMO there is NO WAY the maintenance on a 928 will equal the loss one takes on new car purchaces....as long as you start with a good car and keep it that way.

Thats a very good point, old Porsches keep their value if they are maintained.

The worst car investment I ever had made is the 2001 Chrysler Voyager LX, bought used in 2005 for over 60K$ (We have +100% import tax on cars in Norway so cars are EXPENSIVE), and now 3 years later it's worth around 35$, so that's about 700$ a month in lost value! on top of that comes a 3-4K$ yearly service bill (The Chrysler importer seems to think Chrysler is a luxury brand over here!), and not to forget 9$ a gallon for fuel, and loan interest!

I used my 928 as a daily driver last summer, driving about 80 miles a day and had no other expenses than fuel, oil, insurance and road tax, except about 500$ for two fuel pumps, some relays and a nipple on the return hose on top of the radiator.

Heck the 928 is even cheaper to insure, and at highway cruising speed the mileage is not far off either.

But if you want a car that is very cheap to maintain and run, and probably even will raise in value the older it gets, get a Porsche 924 NA in good condition.

Adding on to the discussion: I use my 928 as a daily driver, but do not that many kilometers. Maybe 10k or so. Drove the 928 like this about 9 years now. 7 were in my S4 and about 2 in my GTS.

Parts on the S4 were about 80$ a month which included maintenance, new radiator, new tires, tranny rebuild, steeringrack rebuild, TB job, radio and more. I had about 1000$ depreciation in 7 years. Still not bad at all.

The GTS is even better. Car was in very good shape when I bought it. I't's been almost two years now, and cost is just about 300$ in total. That gives 14$ a month or so. But I will get some repairs in due time
