Default How much should an auto transmission rebuild cost?

I've just been quoted £1400.00 ($2800.00) for a worst case scenario full rebuild. Does this sound about right? I know most of the responses will be from the US, but i'm trying to get a rough idea.

recent thread on 1982 trans.."The flush did not help and they quoted me $1278.00 to rebuild with rebuild kit that I was told covers most all wear items...any other items found when inside would be extra. Sounded fair to me so away they go. Got a call today after dismantling the LIST of other items that were bad. converter needs rebuilding, pump, bands shot...some other stuff...adds up to right at $4000.00! I told them to stop...just box it up..."

That's the MO of most trans shops.

ya wait until you get that call from the shop with all the new stuff they find. Nothing is absolute pricing in a used exotic.

I hear ya.....shop seems reputable enough, do a lot of subcontract work for Mercedes, ferrari and porsche main dealers. Even took the time to show me the full price breakdown. Started at $550.00 to drop the box, upto $2800.00 for full rebuild using MBenz parts.

Looking at your avatar, was this a vortech-induced failure?

I say throw it away and get a good used unit! It would be cheaper by half almost. I suspect you could get TWO units for less than a full on rebuild!

YMMV!

Hi Bert

One of the reasons I changed to Full synthetic auto fluid is that mine was overheating...on HARD launches etc...

On your box problem....I would ring Paul Anderson and ask how much for him to fit you a known good box....I would guess £300 to £500 ish...

All the best Brett

Where did you go? There is this place in Atlanta called TBR. The owner, Ron, is a strange fellow but they do great work. They have two mules that they test each and every tranny before it leaves the shop.
