Default Throttle Linkage help...Broke !!!

I was making some adjustments to the linkage today, and one end of the pull rod (the one that goes underneath the intake) snapped off at the linkage.... not popped off, but twisted the ball socket right off.

First I need the new part, rod w/ball cup ends, and can't find it. If anyone has a used one of these rods I will buy it quick. Also, do I have to remove the intake to get to the other linkage I see under there ? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I wan't to drive !!

thanks

That happened to me when I was putting the console back on the front (popped the front back on and the rear popped off.)

You don't have to remove the intake. Here's the technique I used:

Get a 3/8" socket extension (at least 12" long) and a flashlight.
Pop the throttle rod off of the front ball on the console so it's free in your hand.
With the flashlight laying on top of the radiator facing back under the intake, you should be able to lean down in there and see the ball on the side of the throttle body.
Stick the back of the throttle rod in there so it's right up against the ball, and stick the 3/8" extension down in between the intake tubes from the top.
Use it as a lever to pop the cup back on the ball. Now make sure you don't pop it off when you put the front one on.

Not sure why you'd need a new one, if it's not binding it shouldn't pop off during normal use.

Good luck!

Ouch!
You might try a marine supply store. I think you can get rods like that and compatible ball cups for them in the sailboat section if your local auto parts store doesn't have it.

If you mean the rod that goes from the throttle linkage to the throttle body under the intake with ballcups at both ends, I have a spare from my 86.5. You can have it for the cost of shipping, say $6.

PM me.
