Question "Bad" things about kick down???

While getting acquainted with the varios relays and fuses in my '85 auto, I noticed that the kick down relay (XV) was conspicuously missing and, I assume, removed by the PO who was the original owner. Contacting him is dificult at best, and I was wondering if he might have been experiencing a problem, other than a adolescent driver in the home, which caused him to remove the same. As this is my first "real" performance auto and I have read a fair amount on the board about the switch, I want to plug in the relay and see what's up. Somewhat concerned what "might" happen if I do (wheels fall off, etc.)

BTW, if any are wondering why I didn't notice this sooner ... all I can say is that I was so impressed with the car WITHOUT the relay I just asumed it must be there. Still moving up the learning curve.

Patrick,

Don't know if you read the post "Is there any way to change the shiftpoints on an 88 S4".

If you haven't, you might want to read the whole thing, as there is a nice detail of what the function of the relay is.

If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go out to the garage and see if the instant fraulein was standard equipment, or just another extra cost option...

HTH,
Greg

Caution to all on the KD relay installation.
Hans, Franz, und Deiter sometimes appear!
Patrick,
I didn't know what the 'Baawaahh' thing was about either. Well, until 2 weeks ago anyhow. Had to get out of the way of an 18 wheeler on the off ramp. Have, since that time, only used it a couple of times. To educate buttheads trying to blow by me at the entrance to the on ramps is a great use for the KD. When you use it you will understand the sound - Baawaahh -.
Pattycakes is powered by the 4.5L and she hunkers down and leaves traffic behind,
Right Now! So I would Imagine your 85' is fixin' to put a BIG grin on your face.
And Yeah, before I used the KD I thought my sHARk made plenty of power. Point of fact, though its bad for gas milage, I seldom leave 2nd gear so I'm always humming along in the power band ready to romp. It's hard to imagine all that AND a factory installed warp speed switch too. Makes you wonder what those Porsche engineers did/do on week-ends.
Wish I could be there when you get that Big Grin - a Kodak Moment -.
Enjoy,
Keep em' rolling'

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll install the switch and let you know. Snowball, since my shark is an "S" the manual also notes that she appears as you mentioned AND is carrying a beer. All this and 32 valves. Life is good.
