Question Name That Seat

My upholsterer said these are not the stock seats for my 84, but there's no question these are Porsche seats, perfectly matched to the rest of the interior. Both are manually operated. So, can you Name That Seat?

Looks like the optional "Sports Seat" (with improved lateral support).

These usually have power up and down, manual fore and aft.

Hi,

Sports seat alright... design for the sport seat changed though in the mid-80's (friends 944 from '84 w/ sport seat option has them while my 85.5 with the option doesn't have the same design) to a "smoother" bolster design. Most of the 928's I've seen have a different seat design than the 911's and 44's of the same period - with deeper "ridges" - like the one shown below

Yep, "Sport Seats" I have the exact ones in my 1982 928 with the "Sport Seat" package and mine are only manual forward and aft with no up and down. Can't tell in Jessa's picture but mine have tiny holes in the horizontal areas. Warning... If you sit in these seats you will never want any others! It feels like someone is hugging you from behind.

My 1981 S (Competition package) has these seats as well. Very durable, comfortable and sporty. The leather seats with the raised surfaces always seem to "heat bloat" and turn to *hit. These sport seats were also an option on some 911s, as I have seen them on a very nice original 84 Carrera.

I distinctly remember reading about perhaps a hundred sets of these seats (with improved lateral support) offered on a 928 list just a few years ago. Anybody know what happened to all those seats?

This exactly describes my seats, right down to the "hug" - but only on the passanger side. The big chunck missing from the driver's seat will be repaired next week. Before/after pics to follow soon!
