Default DR's Twinscrew Fan setup on a C&R radiator

I just want to let people know that DR's twinscrew fan kit will work with the C&R radiators that 928 Intl. sells. This was a concern for me, as it may be for others, but it does work nicely with minimal modification. I will post some pictures after work today.

Thanks DR, I am very happy with it.

Here are a few pictures of the installation of DR's twinscrew fan kit on my 86.5. The photos show the slight modifications i had to make to the fan shroud to get things to fit properly on the C&R radiator.

This first picture shows a flange (blue) that is present on the C&R radiator at each oil/trans fluid fitting. The red areas are sections of DR's fan shroud that I needed to cut away for clearance of these flanges. #1 was the most critical, and #2 i could have gotten by just cutting the area out of view behind the Oil line fitting, but i removed it all. I used a Dremel with a fiber cutoff wheel to remove the material, very easy.

I needed to cut away material for clearance on three of the four oil/trans fluid lines. Clearance was needed for both oil lines, and the lower transmission cooler line. The fitting for the upper transmission cooler line didn't need clearance for whatever reason.

The cooling guys at work provided me with some of this 1/4" thick foam that we use for sealing gaps around charge air, hydraulic, and transmission coolers on our Deere test units. I used the foam to fill the gaps that were left after i dremeled a clearance around the cooler fittings. If a guy were a little less hamfisted in his measurements than i am he could probably eliminate this step.

DR provides new flange spring nuts and screws for mounting the bottom of the fan package to the radiator where the factory shroud mounts. As you can see from this picture my the plastic mounting tabs for the upper fan shroud are missing/broken so i decided to use the left over flange spring nuts and screws from the lower factory fan shroud for mounting the upper shroud to DR's fan. I used the flange nut on the fan housing and the screw thru the hole in the left and right air ducts to mount the upper fan shroud as shown in the following pictures. These ducts are originally held inplace on the shroud by an 8mm bolt and nut. The washer for the flange nut screw needed to be notched for clearance of the rivet next to the hole. The hole in the duct also had to be drilled to accomodate the larger screw.

If the plastic tabs are intact on your upper shroud you won't have to do this, i just thought i should offer this solution in case someone else has broken tabs, it's better than buying a new upper shroud for $150 only to cut it down to fit on the new fan.

Unfortunately i did not get pictures of the installation as it was modified for the C&R radiator at the bottom side of the fan housing. I can tell you that DR's fan housing mounts to the factory mounting points for the lower fan shroud using L shaped brackets similar to the ones used on the top side, shown in the last picture of the previous post. However, the shroud mounting holes on the C&R radiator are about 1/4 inch higher than the factory radiator so they will not work. No worries, there is a flange that runs the entire bottom width of the radiator, pick a spot on the left side, one on the right, and drill holes for the flange nuts and the brackets will line up perfectly.
