thx Bill & bigmac.

The first step will be to replace the battery and hopefully analsye any 'draw'. I'm hopeful that the ABS system is the culprit; then I kill 2 birds with 1 12 volt, 800 amp.

Did anyone suggest pulling the ABS relay on the fuse/relay panel?
That disables ABS to take it out of the equation.
If noise/drain still exists, then it may be something else.

My 88 has a constant hot cig lighter socket so I have a solar charger panel plugged into it.

The 2 relays on the ABS pump are unique and hide behind the driver's front wheel splash contraption.

Good suggestion Ernest; I replaced the ABS relay on the panel hoping that woud cure the intermitent ABS warning, no luck.

Since then the issue has gotten progressively worse; no ABS.

AS mentioned the battery/car is not used +4mths but is well maintained.

malcolm. pullthe ABS relay, disconnect the big ABS feeder to the unit and recharge the battery. Does the drain issue go away?

It may be totally unrelated - so you need to detrmine that...?

If there is a different issue draining the battery determine where it is.

The ABS may just be a functional issue... The reason I say this is that aside from the relays the ABS takes a lot of current when its operating and will drain the battery very fast...

The car drains the fully charged batt in 2 days...............remember this batt is +2yrs old.

When fully charged all's well...........I'm going to recharge the batt once again, start the car etc and disconnect it for a few days...........if it fails to keep a charge then I lknow for sure the batt is NFG.

New batt if required then I'll play with the 'drain' and the ABS issue in parallel..........thx for the inputs , I'll post back in a few.

Default update ~ short term

I charged the batt. of discussion and the car starts and runs perfectly.

I'll disconnect the -ve post tonight and try to start on the weekend...........at least we'll prove if the batt can hold a charge. If so its being drained by the car somewhere and thats wher the fun begins.

I got it (I hope)...........I had taken the passenger door apart last year to fix a stuck window issue...........the door light was flaky before the op and after didn't work at all after. I took the panel off and fixed the light so it works and presto; the batt stays alive!

Hopefully the coincedence that were are now having temps almost spring like helps also.

thx much for all the input!

Not so fast..............not so fast!!!!

Batt dead again; weather hasn't been suitable for driving so the car sat again and within 4 days no batt power. Charged again I followed Alans excellent step by step approach and dropped 500mA draw by removing fuse 24, interior lights, but something still drawing 530mA.

My issue is far bigger than first thought so shall further follow the fuse by fuse pull 'till we find the buzzard...............best get it really right before driving season starts.
