Not sure 'patience' was the right adjective, more like 'ignorance'. Knowing what I know now, I would have undone the line from the condensor, expansion valve, and the under-car connection, maneuvered it somewhat out of place (as in the first pic), then paid some A/C guy to make a house call and R&R the flexible portion of the hose in situ. Or bought a hydrakrimp and done it myself (perfect excuse to buy a tool...) There is no reason to remove it from the car, I just didn't think it through.
