Default GTS Mirror Assembly

All,

I am having problems in fitting the new GTS mirrors on the S4. I have been following the exploded diagram and am finding it very hard to compress the spring (7) into the housing (2) and then feeding the whole thing into (3) and twisting and locking with (6).

The sprong is so hard to compress that I cannot feed it through. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Nadine

From all accounts its just really hard to do - you need a lot of strength to compress it. Others have favorite methods and means to hold support it while attaching - but you may need to get some burly help...

Getting the mirror to door gasket on right was my biggest hurdle.

I ended up using that blue 3M plastic masking tape to hold it in place while I was installing the mirror.

But it is hard to get the gasket on the mirror base then to get the tape on it to hold good enough and not go under the gasket.

That method worked for me on my 1st set (on my old 82) but the on the 91, I had to resort to brut strength.

As for the gasket, I used a couple tiny drops of crazy glue to hold it to the mirror first, then I installed it on the car.

What was different on the 91 Andrew?

Mine were new mirrors, the kit.

I just put a set together on Sunday, Either use the link posted above and compress the spring that way.

Or you can find someone to muscle them together for you. I would do it for you, except I'll need about a week to recover from mine. It was quite a workout!
