I'm glad this topic came up. I've been interested in lowering my ride height from the current stock '79 set-up, which is on the high side in my opinion. Problem is that my car does not have the adjustable collars up front as they were not optioned on my year model. Will anything other than adding the collars and lower spring perches be necessary? Do I need shorter springs also?

Yep it's a spanner wrench. We use them on the aircraft I work on.

I can't turn the rings for dear life......

I have sprayed WD40 and nearly emptied a can and the damn rings are frozen solid.

Any ideas what I can do now.....

Can someone relieve me of my misery !

Thanks

Nadine

Can you get some pipe that will fit over the spanner handle to give yourself some leverage? Once you get a little movement it should become easier.

Ok so i did thins on my recently replaced shocks. It was really simple. I started off on 5 surns on one side and 6 on the other to balance it out. Took all of 3-5 minutes per side once the wheel is off. Of course mine was easy because i coated the threaded collars with anti seize when i assembled them.

Funny thing is i lowered the car and i estimated it should drop about 20 mm but it looks the same. I havent moved the car. I went to start it and drive around then recheck but the battery is dead. So a drive wont happen till tomorrow to settle the suspension. Honestly I thought only the fronts needed to settle. Is this an issue with the rear's as well.

I adjusted the nuts towards the bottom to lower the car. That is the correct way RIGHT?

It may be easier if you raise that corner of the car, remove the wheel and compress the spring with a spring compressor...

Down should be correct (Displaces more shock up inside spring). doesn't settle like the front, but I think there will be some settling.

Thanks Charley

Yeah i was second guessing myself with the direction of the shock nut, but its pretty obvious that thats the direction it needs to go.

Oh I would suggest that anyone doing this first mark one part of the nut so you can count how many revolutions youve gone. I used nail polish as a marker to count the turns.

What color nail polish do you keep in the tool box?

So, for each full turn how much does it change the ride height? Ryan you said that you did 5 turns and expected 20mm change. So, is it about 5mm per turn?
