There was a nice pair on eBay, but it got pretty pricy... and I lost the auction. So, I'm still looking.

Maybe someone here would appreciate some help in financing his/her GTS brake upgrade by selling me his existing calipers...

I would really try to get the bleeder screw out and then have them powder coated. It's really throwing money away to get a new set unless you've burned up or broken at least $100 in drill bits to extract the broken screw.

yeah but the ones she's screwing around with right now can go right up on Ebay too and be sold for $350 at least!

I am sure they will be allot easier to fool around with on a bench then on the car.

Agreed with both of you.

This can get pretty expensive pretty quickly, if I can't sell the old ones because of damage from drilling.

Maybe it would be best to remove the caliper from the car and take it to a machine shop, where it can be dealt with professionally.

if your considering swapping brake calipers then yes just remove the ones you have now and at least try to take it to a machine shop. Either way it sounds like the calipers NEED to come off.

did you check what S4 calipers cost? Are they $50 or so less per caliper?

Ryan: I haven't had time to look into this, yet. This has been a crazy week...

But if anyone is interested to see what we're up against with the tool stuck in there, here is the best picture I could take in the garage:

Nicole,
I don't know what you and Bill have used for penetrating oil to help with the frozen threads, but Earl Gillstrom and I have had the best luck with KROIL products. We use both the Penephite (has graphite in it), and the Silikroil (silicone) for any threads that we have difficulty with. IF you can get access to some of it, keep the recessed area full of the penetrating fluid for a few days (not driving the car if possible), then seek mechanical ways of attacking the broken tool problem.
Good Luck,

In the meantime I bought a pre-owned pair, had them rebuilt, refinished them, and installed them...

However, one of these days, I want to have that broken bleeder nipple extracted from my original caliper.

A friend sent me a link to this:

http://www.extractit.com

This guy is using an "Electrical Discharge Machine" to extract the old piece, supposedly without damaging the original.

I have never heard of a such machine, nor do I know, if that really works on a caliper. But if it does, it might be a lot less risky than drilling it out.

Anybody here know about this? Any experiences with this process?

Hi Ryan: I don't need the calipers anymore, but want to extract the broken nipple from the old one.

I tried to change the thread title, but the change is not reflected in the thread list. I don't know why.

Nicole take the caliper to a welder let him weld a nut to the top of the bleeder and it should screw right out after the large dose of concentrated heat. now that there is more metal to weld to it should be easy

One local has stuff removed from small hole in PSD pump internals in order to get small channels absolutely clear. He couldn't fix actual problem in pump unit but discharge machine did its job very well. Pin was take out without virtually any signs of having anything done to it. When done right, process works beautifully.
