Post NEWBIE INTRODUCTION

Hello all!!!

My name is Greg, I live in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

I just purchased a 1979 Porsche 928 5spd vin# 9289201940 with 125,000 kms, off a friend of a friend.

I am the 3rd owner of the car. It had been sitting in his garage for 7yrs with a broken tension pulley shoulder bolt and both fuel pumps pooched. It did however come with a spare motor. The owner wanted it out of his garage. He couldn't bare to see it sitting there any longer. He said "give me $2500.00 (Canadian) and it's all yours". He also let me drive his 2001 996 6spd. Nice guy, has money but not mechanically inclined.

My friend and I installed a tension pulley bolt from the back up motor, a new timing belt, battery, two new fuel pumps and fuel filter, and VROOOOMMM!!!! Started right up. No smoke show no leaks.

Needs some TLC, paint and tires, but she is all there and complete. Shudder on clutch engagement in 1st and reverse, and synchro gone from 1st to 2nd.

I am fortunate enough to have a friend with a shop and two of his friends who fix Porsche's. They are currently restoring a 1960 RS60 back to concourse condition for a client.

I have been browsing this site, and have found it to be extremely helpful!!! Tons of info!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers! Sorry for the long intro.
Greg Lewis

PS - is there an adjustment on the headlights to stop them from shaking so much when going over bumps? Thanks!!!!

Greg:

Welcome to the club!

If you're ever near the Windsor/Detroit area, we're having a big 928 picnic on July 12:

The Fresh Water Sharks Frenzy

We also get together on the second Thursday of each month (like tonight) at a local bar just to chat.

Welcome Greg. I am also a Canuck; North Vancouver B.C. I have 79 5 speed with 105K on it. VIN 92892011898. pretty close in production. Had mine about two years and put about $3k into it so far.

Check the linkage between motor and actuator shaft. This may be where you vibrationis coming from.

Thanks Big Dave!!! July 12th eh? That would be cool. My Shark won't be finished by then, but it would be worth the drive to see other peoples rides!!! Windsor/Detroit is about 3.5 hrs away. Not a bad drive at all.

Cheers!

Welcome Greg. I too am from Ontario - Sault Ste. Marie.

Using the 'search' function on the word 'headlights' results in several matches.

Here's one that may help:

Thanks Anthony.

Funny you should mention that. The owner was offered $2500.00 from somebody who wanted to do just that. The owner turned him down. He had owned the car for 12yrs and would rather have someone restore it. Lucky me.

This board is a huge wealth of knowledge!!!! I must have printed at least a dozen threads already!!!

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome everybody!!!

ajd0002 - The Hammer eh? I go to Hess village all the time. Funky Munky, The Gown and Gavel. Sometimes go to Tailgate Charlie's and Slainte Irish Pub downtown as well!!

Bill 84 - Lot's of good times at Sauble Beach back in the College days!! Hiding beers on the beach from "Super Cops" on motorcross bikes ring any bells?

martin D - Never been to Lions Head, but I have been to Barrow Bay a long time ago. Small world indeed.

Sean79 - Thanks for the tip. I'll look at that as well.

Cheers!
