928 Seats - Are they the same as the 944?
I am working with a manufacturer of replacement seat covers to see if we can come up with a leather replacement cover for Porsches at a resonable price. I know that the standard seat offered in the 944 series was also available in the 924 and in the 911 as well. But I am unsure if the seats in the 928 are the same. Anyone have access to both?
Thanks

All I can say is that 928 and 944 NEVER had the same seats. They might be compatible at the rails or electrical connectors, but the upholstery was always different.

I think that '85-up Porsches ('85.5 in the 944) might all share the same basic seat construction, and only the upholstery differs. The shape is the same, the controls are in the same place, and the same type of fasteners hold them to the car. This isn't the case for the pre-'85 cars though - the seats are definitely different in the older ones.
So they LOOK like they were standardized. But so do the steering wheels and they're not interchangeable 911 to 944. Or is it 928 to 911. Cripes.

Thanks for the replies. I am aware that there are differences in the upholstery designs (and Nicole, not to rag on 928's but us 944 owners would NEVER allow a checkerboard in our cars! ). The goal was to determine if seat covers for the 944 series "could" also be used on a 928 seat - not that you would, but that you could (sounds like a Nissan comercial ).

Idon't have any info on the seat differences but would love to find affordable upholstry. If you come up with anything please post the info. I would be happy if I could find affordable vynal presewn kits for my 81' 928. Any one know of any sources? <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Sorry to disappoint you. But I have to tell you that I have seen lots of 924S and 944 models with checkerboard cloth (called "Pasha") in Europe. An example from the '83 Porsche brochure is below...

Perhaps, but you had to go to Europe to find them!
Jim...
This is exactly what I'm working on. The project has been asigned a "lead" and it looks like this will be a go! The manufacturer has assured me that they are VERY EXCITED about this project and will begin work as soon as the SEMA show in Las Vegas concludes. They have already secured donor seats for the patterns on the 944 series cars, hence my original question on the 928 seats. I'll add additional info as it is available.
Oh, and Nicole - that color combo actually looks pretty nice! I like the grey carpet with the black trim. Seats were probably left over 928 units!
