Lightbulb low mileage Japanese Beauties

I have been fishing around and found quite a few 928's here very cheap. For example 84, 65,000km for $4000USD.
I live in Tokyo where these cars are not appreciated, especially pre-S4.

I love buying cars and helping people. So let me know if you are interested

Rob

How well do cars last in Japan? Aren't the winter's fairly harsh, so are the roads salted and is it normal to garage cars? I'm just trying to guage the usual state of the cars.

Simon on the email list has been pointing out the low prices in japan too. They seem to be about half that in the UK!. It seems to cost about £1000 + 30% of the purchase price to import and register a car from japan.

Cheers

Cool

Does anyone have expirience with importing a 928 S4 to the US? I could buy a '93 GTS with 93 k miles from a friend in Germany for $15k. Which sounds like a hell of a deal. I have that much in my '87.
I heared real horror stories from people about passing a foreign car through customs and especially the DOT certification.
How difficult is it and how much does it cost.
regards,
Sab. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

DaveW-
Why does it cost PStlg1,00+30% of the purchase price from Japan? I imported a Volvo 850 Turbo to the UK from KSA & had only shipping & the usual annual MV charges.
Cheers,
Donald

Do a search on the Rennlist email board re: importing - I recall a pretty thorough discussion on all the hurdles and expenses a few months ago.

I must have missed that discussion too TJ, I'll also have to look it up.

Donald, My understanding is that the shipping cost's are about £600, registration fees are about £200. I rounded up to a thousand to cover misc expenses. On import into the UK there is a 10% car tax and then 17.5% VAT (purchase tax) on top of that. Also if the car is under 10 years old (unlikley for a 928) there is a type approval process to go through.

That's it as far as I know!

Donald, I forgot about your other point! If you are importing a car for a limited time period with the intention of taking it back out of the country at some time in the future (I don't know the numbers) the tax is skipped.
