It can't hurt to ask.

Ed, if you could please measure the rest of the parameters listed on the Easylift website below on your spare damper, I'll be happy to submit a quote request. We'll have to guess on the damping force, but they should be able to give us at least a ballpark figure. I'm sure we can get a dozen folks interested if the price is right.

Thanks,
George

That's exactly why I started this thread. I found it ridiculous that it cost almost the same price as something that's orders of magnitude larger and more expensive to produce.

I buy all my hood and hatch shocks from a large International spring and damper company and have the clout to buy cheap. My hood and hatch shocks are $12 each and great quality.
I will talk to them tomorrow about the damper and get back to you.
My price for the part is $79 and that is waaaay to much.

I'm just taking some more measurements and will update the photos with additional dimensions within a few minutes...

Done. I've updated my earlier post #14 with more measurements and an updated second photo. You might need to do a browser refresh to get the latest updated photo.

Many thanks Ed. I sent a quote request yesterday and will pass on the results when I hear back from them.

I talked to Mr Porsche and guess what - the price just went sky high !!!!
My price from Porsche is now $99 a damper. 928 Spec price looks real good at the moment until they order some more stock.
Prices from Porsche are on the up and up so we need to find alternatives.
I have all the details with my supplier - thanks to Ed - we will see what they say.

They will say, "謝謝你,羅傑".

(Just giving you a hard time, Roger. Sometimes I just can't help myself. )

Next time I'm in Texas, I'll have to stop by and say Hi. My brother-in-law lives in Ft. Worth. We're due to drive down there sometime... last time, we took the 928 and had a good time.

They were less than impressed with the quantity - I told them 100 knowing full well we would be lucky to sell 10. Judging by the slowness of the response it ended up in the trash bin.

I have to assume that these things are like hood/hatch shocks, "Y" connectors, pop-up light clips, etc. All things that will eventually fail in our cars - regardless of condition or miles.
While we're on the topic of glove boxes, assuming that his is a holder of some kind, what did this hold?
Before anyone answers, my guesses are:
  1. Tire Guage
  2. Surgical Gloves (to enable dr./driver to assist w/accidents)
  3. Miniature pop-up mirror to see if the 911 that you passed is keeping up - without being conspicuous
  4. Tissues for Driver after timing belt failure
  5. Spare Glove Box Dampener ($420 option)

It holds nothing, but it passes cold air. That's why I posted this photo about a year ago:
