Question Wally, spark chasing...

Wally,
I see you are up and at em'.
Preamble: Yep! I am going to get thr goodies and cobble together two (2) sets of jumpers right after I drop the kids at the soccer game.
Problem: Started with a tail warning light.
The front and rear driving light (aka running or parking light), and the front and rear side marker light were out.
Assumed it was the rear bulb, checked socket bulb and assembly, every thing looked brand new. Replaced the bulb anyhow. Still no light,
Replaced front bulb checked socket and assembly, everything looked new here also. Still no light.
Replaced fuse even though it looked new - all fuse and relay contacts in fuse panel and console cleaned last month when I installed the new CD-.
player. Still no light. Pulled front side marker.
Nicole helped here, got the bulb out - had light powder corrosion on bulb and socket , replaced bulb and used 400 grit on ALL metal in socket/assembly.
Warning light went out! All running/driving lights working.
Next day short run to gas station left front marker light out , all others working. Short run to Target- less than a mile...all left side running lights out, fused smoked.
Was going to do the jumper/short hunt this morning but something else became noticeable yesterday. Wether or not the headlights are on when I put Pattycakes in reverse she will either stall or damn near stall. The apm gauge takes a dive to the 10-11 volt range when in reverse, put it in neutral, OR, a forward gear and its back to 13-14 volt range ( 11 hour 6/2 amp charge the night before. If not mentioned before cleaned contacts on all leads and sockets- with exception of left rear marker light -today- with either 400 grit or new green pad. What I need to know is the relationship in the harness of the reverse and running light leads, do they run together? I believe the reverse lights are on a seperate fuse and circuit but am not sure. Can you think of any reason for a mutual drain on seperate circuits?
A common ground problem, or short in a joint use harness?
As always looking for the easy way out before 'ACTUALLY DOING SOME INDEPENDANT THINKING, LET ALONE ANY WORK' !
Thanx in advance.
John S. 82' Weissach, Auto., 'Pattycakes'
This is holding up muy pod project- actual work.

Thumbs up

Never mind.
Wally, thanks for the jumper idea.
Max, thanx for the reminder. Nicole, Kudo's I don't know if a matched set of bulbs is necessary but swapped them ALL out.
Turns out the left rear was getting cooked by the exhaust. A teeny crack in the muffler was the culprit. wouldn't have noticed except the blades on the receptacle looked like someone was trying to temper them. Assumed that 12volts on a 8amp fuse would be hard-pressed to to cause major discoloration so I went looking. That's done, but, I still have that voltage drop when in reverse - will be checking from the reverse switch on. One other spark glitch. Kick down switch failed to ignite the rocket boosters and a Mustang GT got me by a fender length, drat!
Later, keep em' rolling

Is there such a thing as Cow Winky Dinky? I think not!

The wiring from the reverse switch on the side of the gearbox runs in the same harness as the wires for the kickdown solenoid. I'd be looking in that harness very carefully for the insulation melt-down.

Sorry for bad news, but the good part is that you have, albeit inadvertently, at least defined the location of the problem.

Best regards,

DR BOB,
Thank you Master. Surely, the angels have prepared a place for you in Porsche Heaven when you eventually travel that way.
This really saved some time .
Thanks again
