This should not be overlooked. It makes a manual car unpleasant to drive, with less engine braking, and a distinct feeling of pouring money down the drain when stuck in traffic.
You really do need to use the Hammer/Spanner to perform the Idle Adaption, and you will have to do so again each time you disconnect the battery.
Also be prepared for destructive pinking/detonation unless you use high octane pump fuel.

The Hammer/Spanner will return the idle to 675rpm, but as soon as you disconnect the battery this is lost.
Not sure what the effect of a high idle would be on an Auto, hopefully others will comment.

It's true, the idle does go up about 200rpm's, but lets fact it, other then at a stop light or waiting to cross the US Mexican border, how often are you at idle?? It is barely noticable, something you get used to eventually. Besides, when you accelerate, that sensation makes up for any downside at idle

I only found one drawback to the higher idle. When you are at the drive through trying to order through the speaker the sound of those extra 200rpm's through my H pipe-no cats-rear muffler bypass made it kind of hard for the person to hear me.
The upside is I would shut down the motor sometimes to order and so I got to hear that wonderful engine roar to life one extra time each day!
When I'd pull up next to a police car at a traffic light I sometimes would slip the clutch slightly to bring it down a touch...not sure which is worse, extra wear on the clutch or extra attention from a policeman.
As far as affecting the driveabilty, in my 5 speed it was a non-factor, I don't see how it would be any different in an automatic.
