Your "within spec" description on the alignment may be a clue. When it comes to alignment no amount of technology can suppliment experience. Yes specs are a guideline but what most people are looking for on the street is the best compromise of even tire wear and drivability. And there is "no substitute" for and experienced eye and hand. In most cases you are better off getting the alignment done BEFORE changing tires. That way the tech can see what wear patterns were created by the current settings. Bottom line on alignment is wear patterns and drivability say more than specs, and you may have a defective right front tire.

Maybe a bad tire, but the big clue to me is that the previous tires were unevenly worn. If there was a mechanical issue (such as wrong torque specs on the Weissach axle) the caused the previous tires to wear unevenly, then the car may have "adjusted" itself to run straight by wearing the tires in an odd/abnormal manner. I agree with a previous poster who recommended swapping the front wheels for a bit to see if the problem goes away. I would think the outfit that sold you the tires would galdly oblige you in the swap to find out what happens, rather than simply throwing a new tire at you. BTW, my experience with my Ecstas has been positive. Good luck - let us know what the issue turns out to be!

I concur, swap the tires. if the thing pulls the other way, it's the tire. If it still pulls to the right, the car.

And it may be: both. Sometimes stuff happens like that. When I'm troubleshooting complex network issues, I frequently find multiple error conditions that are jointly to blame... and error condition 6 is the one that finally overcomes the system's robustness and manifests itself in a noticeable 'symptom'.

The only thing to do is eliminate all error conditions you can find until the symptoms disappear. YMMV.

good luck

Thanks again, guys!

Thaddeus: Your tag line at the bottom would translate back into English as the following: "After it has powered a Porsche, every other car is s%#t". What I think you want to say would be "Nachdem man einen Porsche gefahren hat, ist jedes andere Auto scheiße" (After one has driven a Porsche, any other car is s%#t). Maybe you can find a lesser offensive last word for that sentence...

PorKen: Similar problem here - it just does not make sense in German. It should read "'81 mit »Competition Group« und automatischem Getriebe, grand-prix-weiß". You might translate "Competition Group" loosely to "Sportpaket".

But Nicole, that last word is one of only about 6 German words I know! And one of the most useful.

Time for a change to the tagline anyhow...

Nicole, ich haben nicht vorgehabt, grammatisch zu sein, zu korrigieren. Zum Beispiel der Farbe Name, als vom Tür Aufkleber gekommen wird.

I wanted the signature to be short, so I shortened it and used the formatting to separate the meanings. I also wanted non-german speakers to understand it, sorta.

I could not find a german advertisement with the word "Automatic" in it. How can I say it as a noun, or do I have to say »automatischem Getriebe«?

Glückliches neues Jahr! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

PorKen:

Automatic transmission = automatisches Getriebe
Automatic = Automatik

Happy New Year to you, too!

Nicole,
Two last and, sorry, obvious things.
If the front tire swap doesn't work -pulls to the other side - break out the bathroom scale and weigh both wheels/tires -.
While you are at it check for location of the red dot on the tire in relation to the stem - hush, you nay sayers -. Should be the same.
You can also try a swap from front to rear.
If your sHARk didn't go up on a lift...
they usually do both fronts, or, both left/right at the same time.
The wheels might HAVE to be put back on the same Hub - any, hush my mouth, weights on your rims?
What I'm saying here is your fronts might have gotten swapped, OR, a set of your front and rears might have been swapped.
I'm a weenie. I even make them mark a lug hole and stud so the critter is mounted the same as it came off.
Good luck on this. BTW The Extas' look nice at the outset and grow on you from there. I like mine.

Jessa, FWIW, the thread you found discusses Kumho's new DOT-R track tire, not the street tires they make. It seems folks have had mixed results with the new track tire.

For reasons beyond my comprehension, Kumho named their new track tire Ecsta V700, which leaves plenty of opportunity for confusion with their other Ecsta tires and their older Victoracer V700 track tire. Go figure.

Still interested in hearing the outcome of this topic....

I finally had time to go by the tire dealer today. After describing the problem, they said they suspect a problem with the right front tire, and offered me a replacement. The service rep at the tire company said that swapping the wheels - even just temporarily for testing purposes - would not work because they are directional tires (I tend to disagree here, but his offer didn't sound too bad either).

So now I have a new tire on the right front wheel - and the car still pulls to the right. In order to go straight, the steering wheel is stil a little off to the left.

I don't understand why I have this problem since I got those tires. The alignment was done to spec, and there should be no reason from an alignment standpoint for the car to pull.
