88S4TRANSMISSION problem
#17
A spring you are trying to put in that should be interesting. Now my spare 57K mile transmission will be twice the price when you need it!
Hope you get it worked out!

Parts for the reverse / park lock out piston are not available; you must by the complete lower valve body cover. MB part # A 126 270 32 05. The question you should ask is what caused the failure. The piston engages by governor pressure at about 9 to 11MPH, do you know if the shifter lever was forced into R or P while the car was in motion

Steve, the car (my baby) is driven by me only, I don't recall such a mishap; came in from a run and could not go into reverse or park, so I turned it off in "N".... however the piston was not sliding easily when I found the problem...WD40bath and now it is..... frustrated without a find, I bent the broken end of the spring and reinstalled it, the fluid (a little thick and a little dark) may never have been changed, so I'll take it to a local shop and have it all replaced if that can be done properly; on the way there I will observe her behavior with the new "off" spring tension.......now, everything is cleaned, painted in crazy colors and reinstalled, movement is good while car is off, did not start up for pressure testing yet. DON T, GLENN you guys know what to do....@#^*&*"<#>*#&@% and don't forget to #*&%<*&%>need I say more.
