Default Foam hood liner prep

I am about to get my new foam rubber hood liner set from 928 leather works and I was wondering what you guys usually use to clean and prep the area? This is a CLEAN painted area BTW, no existing foam.

if yours is so old its crumbling then i would use a putty knife (plastic one) and some solvent to remove all the traces of the original glue. Get it clean before reapplying.

I need to re-glue parts of mine that are loose. Luckily for me my liner is still in one piece.

If fresh paint then some dawn soap would remove any wax. I used paint thiner on mine to remove the old glue and it did not remove any paint.

I used a large 4 inch wide scraper to remove the OEM liner, then pressure washed the under hood area. Didn't bother to try to remove every last bit of old glue, just made sure it was clean and dry.

3M (gorilla snot) to glue down Rob's liner (on both the hood and the liner mating surfaces), and it's been great ever since.

I remember when my hood liner was somewhat original, and then I took a picture of it and everyone had to have one.

I've used "Goof-off" to remove the residual "sticky" stuff and it worked fine. A plastic spatala is also good. (it doesn't scratch the ulderlying paint)

I have replaced more than a few of these liners, what seems to work the best is to get a big plastic cover , put towels on the fenders. then drape the plastic over them.( hood stays on the car) Get 2 cans of PB blaster and generously spray the adhesive and let it soak for 20 mins (this is after you scrape off the loose stuff first) use a bondo scraper .
After this the old glue will come off easily, and it will take 2 possibly 3 applications for the surface to be fully cleaned. Then get some wax and grease remover and clean the surface again 2 times then wash it with some car soap and dry with a towel.
The hood liners i have been using all have the factory glue on them so a water spary bottle filled with some water and isopropil alchohol seems to work well, spray this onto the hood and after you have test fitted the liner start from one side and work towards the front, get the middle areas fitted first to remove all the bubbles, Do this on a warm day and a helper is a good idea
