Timing Belt done!!
I finished the t-belt and new Fyrebraid wires, caps, rotors, tensioner, filters (no k&n), tip shifter, tires and a whole list of other goodies. My car has much better throttle responce and neck snapping torque. I found the cams were out of time. The passenger side cam had slip two teeth, and the drivers side looked to be a tooth advanced. The tensioner was dry as a dust bowl. My crank thrust was right on the money, and all the rod bearings looked good. Needs new shark mounts though, I did install the Shark mount III that I got from Jager. My timing belt looked to be original. The car has 81000 miles on it, the water pump was greased over but looked good, replaced it anyway..
I am now posting from Idaho. Finished servicing the car on Monday Morning, Left western WA on Tuesday. Been cruizin up and down the roads of north ID for a couple of days now.
You all have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July weekend and God bless America. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Congrats on the T-belt...It's a good feeling is'nt it
Goldknight,
Tacoma eh! I roosted there many of years. Lived in Gig Harbor on Wallachet bay the last stint and have many good friends buzzing around Tacoma. If you ever make it down to the "Swiss" Tavern, say hi to Bob for me. I'm sure it'll bring a big grin to his face and if you've never been there, make the trip if for nothing other then lunch.
Baawaaaahhhhh
PS...Bummer...is it really raining there!

Good job. Don't forget to count the miles for retension of the belt. retension is a much easier job than the whole replacement!!
Now that you have done it, how would you rate the difficulty level? So many owners ask how difficult to gauge if they should try it themselves, how do you rate it?

I rate it as piece of pain in the *** cake. Being a mechanic helps. Being that the Germans are very organized and practical people helps. And after having done it I'd say the hardest part was getting the gear oil in the tensioner. The wife was astonished when it started on the first crank. Rain in Washington? Well at least it would be a bit cooler there. I still haven't fixed the AC yet. Although the new heater valve fixed the problem with getting a heat wave when I tried it, but the system is all out of refrigerant. My system for AC is two down, and 75mph.
Snowball, I got that CD and my brother in law in Washington has a burner so Sunday after I return I'll get a copy made for you.
I do have to thank are big three. Got bunch of stuff from 928 Intl, Ordered tune up kit from 928 GT, ( although Porsche people didn't cooperate and get the manuals out in time for my overhaul), and Devek for being there, I haven't gotten an order in with them yet but will by next summer. And Jeager for all the cool dress up stuff, especially that tip shifter.
Thanks all for the tips I printed out before I left Alaska, they helped me out of a couple of tight spots since the manuals weren't available.

To put oil in the tensioner:
Use a pump or trigger style oil can, and three feet of small clear plastic tubing that will fit ont he oil can spout and the top bleeder screw on the tensioner.
Open both bleed screws, and pump oil in the top scrw until it comes out of the bottom one.
