Post 5.0 block with 4,7 heads - Performance gains?

Thank you all for your info on welding the block.

I am still wondering if anyone has ever put 4.7S euro heads on a 5.0 block? In reality, I will keep everything from the 4.7 except block and pistons.

I am wondering what performance gain I could expect?

Is there any known problems with this?

Ian

I have no experience with this, but there must come a problem with the compaction ratio.
Either you have to machine the pistons or enlarge the combustion rooms in the cylinder heads.
I am also looking forwards to hear what the experts are saying to this

Ian,

Guess what I'm running in my track car
You can use your Euro heads and intake on a 5.0 block, but you must use pistons from an 85-86 US 32V motor. S4 pistons will yield to low of a compression ratio. You also need to machine the pistons for the 2 valve clearance.
The results is a motor with a compression ratio of 10.3 to 1 and about 290-300HP to the rear wheels.

We have built that exact engine...without headers and with cats acheived 303rwhp using the stock CIS system. We are now using a our DTA fuel and ign system and expect to gain about 20 rwhp.

Best Regards,

After some procastination I am going to mate my '85 Euro intakes, etc to my '86 5.0 block, too. How did you know how to modify the pistons for the Euro valves? Is there a template or something? Or did you take an impression from the Euro pistons.

Thanks.

Of if using the s4 pistion is to low of compression, that could be good using a supercharger. How low of compression would it give?

I purchased a drive train that is a 5.0 - liter block (1985 32 valve block) with 1983 Euro S heads and cams. The engine had one strange thing, US L-Jetronic injection mated to the larger Euro throttle body and intake runners. The previous owner had dyno reports of 280 - 295 HP at the wheels. I changed the injection and intakes to K-Jetronic and haven't had it dyno'ed yet. It runs real strong.

The pistons did have small grooves cut into them.

The downside was the "donor" car went into a wall. After installing this fine drivetrain I suffered the following problems that I presume were caused by the stress of the crash:
- broked driver side cam
- three gears damaged when transmission went
- required an entire new clutch

SO, even if a deal sounds good, beware of parts from wrecked cars!
