G'day Rob I painted the whole car as part of what amounts to 9 out of 10 restoration, to give some idea essentially the whole exterior is new.

O.k back to the front bar. I'll make the following presumtion, that the shape of the bar is good and not distorted or damaged. Then I take it the damage is probably stone chips. Your car being metallic cannot be brush touched sucessfully, so then you either try to do a spray touch up or repaint the whole bar. Matching a silver will not be very easy as that colour fades readily. It's because if you look at the fomulation there is very little actual colour in it and it's made up from various grades of chopped aluminium oxide. The only way you will be satisfied is to repaint the whole bar, but if you want to have a go at the airbrush work, here's a few tips. You will need to prime the area if the surface of the paint is damaged. That means is the clear coat penertrated. If yes you have no choice. You must use a 2 pack primer and if you want it to be flexible you also need to add the flex additive, really this is a must. I used Glasurit which was the oem supplier. Their product is called softface. You'll need the temp to be atleast 20c and the surface should be preheated a little to ensure there is no moisture. Other things you'll need is thinners compatible with the 2 pack system you have chosen and a good prepsol. If you have gone back to the plastic you'll need a special plastic cleaner and primer. So before I go on anymore you'll potentially need; Plastic cleaner, plastic primer, prepsol, thinners, primer flex. additive, colour and clear. Don't forget the tack rags either. This adds up if it is just a touch up by the way. So have a beer and tell me what you are proposing before I continue. Rough cost of goods in U.S dolars would be $200 <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

Greg,

I will start a new thread, so that other people won't be confused by the title of this topic.
