Cool

Brian-

Last year when I pulled the water manifold to fix an oil leak around the filler can on my 2 valve car, I noticed the same thing. The inner ring area of the manifold itself was quite corroded...if my car had not been running cool prior to that point, I would have probably been concerned and done something about it. I took a file and knocked off most of the corrosion before I put the manifold [and new t-stat] back on. My car typically runs with the temp. needle slightly below the middle point of the gauge, even in the summer here in Central Florida.

Thanks Normy! My car also runs to the cool side. In fact, the PO put a 83 degree thermostat in it, probably because it will not throw much heat from the HVAC. It gets chilly up here in the Great White North. If I can figure out how to properly reassemble this unit, with all the seals and O-rings, I'll bet it runs at the right temp AND will keep a guy warm at night.

The seal goes on the engine block. The O-ring goes between the front of the thermostat housing (towards the radiator) and the front of the thermostat. It's all illustrated in the Service Manual. YMMV.

I took her out for a "Thermostat shake-down" last nite. I was AMAZED at how much smoother she ran. Also - she seemed MUCH quieter...maybe it was the smoothness...
