Default HELP! I'm stuck in the middle of my CV joint refurb-issue resolved

I have one of my axles all cleaned up and ready to reassemble and I ran into a problem. The outer side is all done with the new boot on and the bearing packed with grease. The inboard cv is where I'm having issues. I pulled the joint apart and cleaned all of the *****, the cage and the outer housing. I have it reassembled but the outer housing will not pivot at all. The cage moves around freely but that is all of the movement I am getting. I took it apart and turned the cage around to see if that would make a difference but it did not. Seems like something is binding up the assembly. I have not packed it with grease yet. Could this be a reason it is binding? I don't want to get it filled with grease if I need to take it apart again before I put the axle back on the car. Any ideas?

Jim, I know what you are seeing but am at a loss for words to explain it but you just need to take it apart and put it back together 'the other way' it's possible to put the parts together but have just what you're seeing. Also IIRC there's a bigger bore on the splined part that slips over the axle that goes where the clip is. That may or may not be the specific problem but needs to be watched. Your fix might just be flipping the outer housing.

Problem solved! I should have looked at Dwayne's write up before I cried for help. The solution was to take the joint apart and rotate the assembly one notch. Back to work.

The WSM fully explains the reassembly procedure and how the CVs are put together.
I just completed changing out the dust boots, cleaning and checking the LHS drive shaft CVs last Thursday.
