Devek RMB
Did anyone else buy the Devek version of the Rear Muffler Bypass? And if so do you have pictures of it. The reason I ask is, compared to the other RMB models I have seen offered from other 928 sites. The one I got from Devek is about the most pathetic thing I have seen. Now don’t get me wrong I am sure Devek makes great products, but I think they missed the mark on their RMB.

I have it on my car, jet hot silver coating. I'm not sure what makes the other versions better--perhaps the polished stainless look? I did return the first one I got b/c it had a "ding" in the collector mouth where it hooked up to the stock pipe. They seemed fine with that. It sounds great, so I guess I'm a satisfied customer.

I had the DEVEK RMB on my 87S4. It's similar to the standard GT/GTS look/size. The JetHot coating is satin silver as opposed to chrome or polished stainless, so a bit more subtle.
The 928 Specialists RMB is polished and has larger diameter tips, so it looks more aggressive. It's also a few $$ more.
I'd say it boils down to the look you want: subtle or aggressive. Either way, you'll like the sound!

Why do you thinnk it's "pathetic"? Why do you think they "missed the mark"? You are not being very specific.
I always thought that because of the "Jet Hot" coating, DEVEK headers and RMBs are superior in terms of durability.
Have you talked to DEVEK about you not liking the product? Given the level of customer service I have experienced from them, I would think they'd rather take it back than have a dissatisfied customer. In that case, I think it would be fair if you at least cover the shipping cost, though... (that would be your cost for trying it out)

What exactly were you expecting of the RMB looks wise? All the pipes I've seen from Devek to 928 Intl look the same. 928 specialist does have that single pipe RMB too I think.

They RMB that Devek shipped me has small (restrictive) pipes, and as far as the “jet hot” coating. Honestly I can’t see the difference between that and high-temp paint you can buy anywhere. I tried to put on some muffler tips to make the pipes at least look better, and the “jet hot” coating scratched off from the slightest rubbing. So to sum it up, small tubing or pipes, flimsy design, and jet hot…. Eh. That is why I asked to see pictures of other peoples RMB, because I wondered if I got the rejected prototype model. And yes I have had good customer service with Devek, and I think they are a fine company. I haven’t asked them to take back the RMB, because I already installed it. And to LastV8 the pipes I got from Devek look nothing like 928 International. I went down to Miraloma Ave and looked at them, not even close.

I got mine from 928intl and they were coated black, over the two years I've had them the coating has worn off a bit. They aren't small or restrictive but they aren't coffee cans either.
Well, just pull them and install the 928 Intl one.

I have seen Quinn's RMB, and I have a stainless one on my car from 928Spec. They are not even in the same class. His pipes look to be maybe 1.75". Mine are 3", look and sound great. Quinn's RMB looks like the stock exhaust on a ricer!
Hey Quinn, drop by and I'll take a picture to post if you want. I would also like to know if all Devek's RMB's look like that.

We just measured, 2" OD is the size of the Devek RMB on Quinn's S4. Isn't that smaller than the size of the rest of the exhaust? Anyone else? My 928 Specialist RMB is 3".

The tips of my dual exhaust are 2" in diameter on the inside. It appears that the tubing widens slightly at the tips, so 2" is probably what the tubes are like.
So, a DEVEK RMB is no more restrictive than a stock exhaust. And putting a larger tube at the end of the stock exhaust sytem certainly won't decrease overall system restriction.
I guess the question is "How much 'show effect' do you want?" A question only you can answer...

Nicole,
You go girl! Hope you don't mind the expression... I really appreciate your valuable opinions regardless of gender. The smallest restriction in the exhaust does indeed determine the maximum throughput of the system.

Quinn,
You removed one source of exhaust restriction: the rear muffler. With the RMB (any version), your next restriction point is likely the remaining mufflers, followed by the cats.
Like Nicole says, depends on the look YOU want.
Cheers.....

Anyone know the answer to my previous re: mandrel (vs. pressure bent)? This addresses the same point Nicole made, what is the point of greatest restriction? Have you compared the diameter at the bends....what is it, something like 30% difference flow between #1 above and #2 above.

Donald from my understanding the term “mandrel” means it stays the same size throughout the bending process. So yes the Devek RMB uses mandrel bent tubing, they start small and end small. But hey if you’re interested in one, I know where you might be able to get a deal on a semi-used one? “Hint hint” .
