Default New, excited 928 owner.

Well, I took the plunge today and bought my first Porsche, a beautiful 80 928, with a 5 speed. I've wanted one for years, and almost bought one a few years back. But internet chatter convinced me that they were tempermental, and I needed to do some research.
So I went and bought an 81 Ferrari 400i. Boy, what a money pit. But I got that car off my "bucket list", and now that nothing can shock me in the way of repair and maintenance costs, I think I'm ready.
The PO dumped 1000's of dollars into it, and I bought it for a fraction of what he spent getting it in good working order. I have to get the speedo/odo working, the passenger window won't go down, and the A/C control is not working. Other than that, she runs and drives excellent.
I'm looking forward to learning all I can about this car, and meeting some 928 drivers in person.

Any one in So Cal?

Default welcome craig..

There are quite a few 928 owners in Socal, many of whom will give you great advice here.

I just picked up my first 928 3 weeks ago, and I am having fun with it...

Welcome, Kraig!

There are a few of us around, perhaps we can get a crew together for the GTG at VCR the last weekend of the month. We also have the occasional tech session for those with DIY sensibilities. Looking forward to meeting you and your beast!

Congratulations, Kraig!

Maybe you should plan your first trip in the 928 to Sharks at the Lake in June...

Thanks for the welcome, all! I'll probably be headed over to VCR this Sunday for an "off" Sunday, simply because it's supposed to be so nice!

Hey Kraig,

The things you mentioned are problems with your car are all common and the experts here (of which I'm not one ) can help you. Do some searches first to find out what you can, then if you still have trouble, fire away, everyone here is REALLY helpful. Ok, one or two are grumpy, but they're still very knowledgeable.

Also, you might want to add some info about your car into your signature, so when you ask a question people can tell what you're working with. I usually can only answer questions about the '85-'86 because that's what I have experience with, but some things are common throughout.

Lots of Southern Kalifornia Shark owners.

There’s almost always some sort of gathering keep yer ears on and I'm sure you'll find a bunch of chances to meet some of us up there closer to where you are. Us Shark owners down here in San Diego had a great meeting at a local winery about a year a go and have done other less formal events too.

Then of course there’s the huge Sharktoberfest at 928International when we all try to get together. It’s a great event with all sorts of tech sessions & other events on Saturday and then on Sunday there’s a huge drive. I personally missed the Sunday drive (bad Alternator ) but had a lot of fun at the Saturday events.

Anyway welcome.

'80s are cool, IMHO. (Even if Jim B. has one. )

Clean. Often lacking a sunroof, rear wiper, rub strips, headlight squirters, spoilers. Simple L-Jet injection, and no airpump.

Someday, instead of my '81, I wouldn't mind a '80 with a (PO rebuilt) 5-speed.

Welcome KraigG
There are lots of events that we get together. VCR is for the most part, the last Sunday of each month. There are some folks that gather on each Sunday, and you will find nice people to speak with. There is also C&C in Irvine every Saturday morning. We have an occasional clinic for various upgrades and repairs to our cars. Sharks at the Lake looks to be a growning event, and this coming June will be my first one. So far, there are about a half a dozen cars registered from this local area, and I expect more by the time the event is scheduled. I hope to meet you soon, and please post pictures of your car.

Hi Kraig. I'm nearby too and another relatively new owner (1 month now). I've already done the ritualistic timing belt / water pump job on my '79 and would be happy to share experiences. There's a great community here (I've gotten hands-on help and been loaned tools locally). Hope to meet you soon.
