Update:

In Knoxville, I have reserved a room at the Jameson Inn - this is just a mile or so down from the Comfort Suites where we have stayed the past two years. The Comfort Suites wanted $100/night and the place next door was full.

American Express showed rooms at the Jameson Inn for $75/night - prepaid. This is the best rate I could find in the area (for a decent room). You can call AmEx at 1-800-297-2977 to make a reservation (if you have an AmEx card.)

Jameson Inn Alcoa
206 CORPORATE PLACE
Alcoa, TN 37701

Carry on...

I've decided that I will not ride the Tail fo the Dragon this year and will instead take the Cherohala Skyway instead. Here is my planned route...

My son lives in Maryville, TN. He tells me the TN highway patrol has shut the fun runs down on weekends. Word got out. They have left the locals alone for years, but a few biker fatalities rendered some bad press. They are timing cars at various points then leveling hefty fines. Be careful

For those that are planning on going this route and want to pre-program their GPS's I have the coordinates of the waypoints from the above URL in both decimal and HMS formats. Can't wait!

Do you know what time you'll be headed out? We're coming up Friday morning and if the timing works, looks like a great route to meet up.

Don't know for sure, but I'd say we'll be on the road hopefull by 9AM... but then the departure time is often dictated by what time we go to bed... which in turn is dictated by how late we stay up drinking beers.
