Default Recommended Exhaust Upgrade on S4??

Can you guys give me some pointers on exhaust upgrades for an '87 S4?

I'm looking for a HP increase and a good throaty V8 sound.

Any kits out there?

X Pipe from Rog100 will gain you a bit. The kit can come with high flow cats, or you can go w/o depending if you have emission testing.

The burble you are looking for will be a RMB from Roger also.

Well worth it.

20 plus RWHP on an S4 says everyone for one of Rogers X-pipes. Thats pretty damn good if you ask me. Start with that.

RMB was claimed to give 5-10 HP (few years ago) but i think thats been debunked now.

Roger is selling the X pipe MFG by Motorsport in Utah, you can have it with or without hi flow cats. Also possibly a choice of different metals. You can also have it Jethot coated for extra long life
If you have the S4 resonators then a X with a RMB should give you a reasonably louder exhaust.
If you have the GT resonators then a X with the RMB will be Nascar loud. Adding the cat option will quiet things down a bit but not much

Just start with the RMB and go from there...

I was so pissed after I got mine on that I waited so long to do it. Still the only upgrade that puts a smile on my face every time I mash it

As others have said though adding an X to an RMB can be too loud for some. After you live with a RMB for a while you really hate the idea of messing up that sweet music for 20 extra HP.

That said though, an X is still on my list of future upgrades

Good luck
Parker

Is there a perceivable power increase w/ an X-pipe- can you "feel it"?

Ketchmi, was one of the primary cohorts to get the X pipe upgraded and back into production but only after many Dyno runs to get the best HP numbers and the best pipe bends.
The X will also let you remove the lower bellhousing without removing the stock header/cat assembly.
Can you feel it................ Well in a word .............YES!
You will be able to easily spin the tires, the extra power is that noticable

Mrmerlin,

Do you run the hi-flow cats or straight through x-pipe?

The whole "GT" and "S4" resonators reference is a HUGE misnomer. I don't know how many "GT" resonators I've seen on S4's. We should either call them long and short, or define them by year, as that is what I think is the determining factor.

I just yesterday received my "X" pipe from Roger. I will be running the "X", no cats, RMB. I am running that setup now, but with a homemade "H" pipe. Great sound, low rumble at low RPM, but loud at WOT. I like it. (We don't have to have cats here in FL.)
