Default 928 Scene in the Charlotte area?

There is a possibility that I may be relocating to the Fort Mill, South Carolina area with the company (Fort Mill is about 45 minutes south of Charlotte).

What is the 928 (or generally the Porsche) scene like in this area? I am aware of 928 Specialists and Shark in the Mountains. What about repair services, Rennlisters who own 928s, dismantlers, etc?

Not sure about clubs and such. I am in Knoxville Tn and have been looking for other owners here. Not a lot of luck so far. I will say the roads are custom made for a drivers car. As far as parts...www.DCAuto.com is in NC and www.GermanAutoDismantlers.com is in Atlanta...not too far.

Welcome to the area.

most of the 928s in NC are concentrated in the RDU area, 60+ here
there are some in the Charlotte area, call Stan at Exclusive Motors on Independance Avenue, he can introduce you to the local Charlotte shark crowd

I live in the Charlotte area. Fort Mill is about 20 minutes from Charlotte just across the SC line. One of the best independent Porsche/928 shops is in Stallings, NC about 1/2 hour from Fort Mill. Jim Burton at Eurowerks is the only Porsche tech that has worked on my 928s for the last 15 years. He is one of the best. It's a great area. PCA parade is here in Charlotte this summer too.

I would also recommend Jim at Eurowerks.

I think the 928 "scene" is pretty much limited to sharks in the mountains, however, I have met several cool 928 guys over the last several years.

There is a safer-than-average road race track in Kershaw, SC which is about 50 minutes south of Fort Mill. I go there as often as I can. It is fun to get out and really drive the way our cars want to.

The moutains in NC are fun to drive on, but many have found that you gotta drive slow on the Blue Ridge Parkway as it's slow speed limit is enforced. My other twisties up there, though.

PCA has pretty regular activies around here too.

I've been on that track at Kershaw in a Panoz. Great place.

An hour west of Charlotte takes you into the I-26 corridor and the mountains. From Asheville, through Hendersonville, and down to Greenville SC the backroads are windy and made for 928s.

I'm also in SC, frequently in upstate Greenville. I also recommend Jim Burton at Eurowerks. If you're anywhere near Hendersonville, NC I would highly recommend Pete Martin at Stuttgart Motorwerks.

Thanks for the responses! It may be another month or so before I have to make a decision about making a move to the Charlotte area. I will definitely look up this thread again when I get there!

ACG,
If you end up down here, stop in sometime. Stan would love to meet new 928 guys around here. At the moment, we are being overrun by 928's in our showroom....I think we have 6!! I'm starting to feel outnumbered!

Anyway, it seems the Carolinas is somewhat of a Southeast epicenter for 928's. Stan is very knowledgable about them, then you've got Jim at Eurowerks (as Chuck said, the best 928 guy around). 928 Specialists is up in Spruce Pine, NC area, and Pete up in Hendersonville is quite a 928 wrench too. Chuck runs 928registry.org from here in Charlotte... Oh, and this Sharks in the Mountains thing that 928 Specialists does....

yep, big 928 community around here....

Thanks Bob! I appreciate the warm welcome. I am familiar with your business and will definitely drop in to say hi whenever I am in Charlotte!
