Ian,
Personally if that engine were to cost under one thousand dollars I would buy it just to have it and there may be some useful parts like the crank and pistons. There is no way I would drop any money into it to get it in a car and running though with the current SC setup.

Consider this: Those superchargers are not the latest technology. You could take a single Eaton/Magnuson MP112 and use it to make close to the ~600HP figure stated for the car. The corvette Z06 kit makes 530 HP on only 5.5 psi without an intercooler.
You can buy a used MP112 for $200-$500 on e-bay just about any day. I bought one for $200 from a Jaguar. I spent less than $3500 including new injectors, throttlebody, manifold, pulleys, tensioner, fuel pressure regulator, supercharger, belt, bypass valve, etc and in 4 months had working prototype system. It all fits under the hood too. I am now in the process of adapting the Ford Lightning intercooler to my system.

The engine would be neat to have but you could probably get better results from some newer equipment.

Andy,

I think I might be able to get it for less than 1K, but I am not sure about that. I agree with you that this engine is not what I really want. I consider buing it and use the block as an basis for a SC project with an intercooler. Hopefully, the 8:1 pistons are intact.

On the other hand, this engine could be saved and rebuilt back to "original" and put into a Strosek car to make a real back to the 80's car.

I will just haggle with the guy and see what comes out of it.

I think it would be cool to completely refurbish it.
It is a unique car with a serious overkill factor...
I just think whomever refurbishes it needs to have either a lot of time, or a lot of money...

If your only goal is to supercharge your car, there are much better options...

But it would be cool to restore this very unique engine...

I put in a vote for a restoration of that engine, as dated as it is, its still a cool part of 928 history. I'd keep that engine all original, and if you can get a real Strosek 928, wow, that would be one sweet package. You could always update the parts that you won't see, like electronics to make it run better if you do restore it. My $.02

Barry , I agree! I have a real STROSEK ....have asked Ian to represent my interest in purchasing the engine.. I do not believe the engine is worth more than $1000 as is. Does it turn over? Be interesting to see if the trans/rear were modified.

If you look carefully you can see these are very similar, but they are not the same installation. The large bar carrying the noses of the input shafts have different lightening holes, the jockey wheel in the centre is a larger alloy unit on one, smaller blackish wheel on the other. The plenum on the later pic has weld lines not visible on the early clean pic, and the oil breather is slightly differently located.
It looks like there were at least two such engines built somewhere, sometime...
