Question Fix the radio or replace it?

Hey gang. Got an opinion question for ya.
Our 87 S4 has a Reno SQR 46 AM/FM Tape Deck.
It has a problem. Sometimes you can turn it on and you may get music for maybe a minute?
But usually much less. Then it pops and all you have is light static. Anybody have a clue as to what may be the problem? Should I take it to a shop to get fixed, or should I just replace it - if we replace it, it will be with a CD player. Does anybody have any suggestions for a plug and play replacement?

Thanks!
Brett

I have the original in mine also. My tuner section works fine. My tape player is defunct. I am looking at the new Aiwa CDC-MP32. It plays MP3 files off of a CD-R disc (up to 200 songs), Plus all the regular Music CD's. I might send my Reno out to have it repaired so that if I sell the car I can reinstall it to make it original.
