Post Which cams to choose?

I have a 1988 944S, wondered if anybody has had experience with camshaft replacement. I don't know which aftermarket camshafts are reliable, or if I should just stick with the stock camshafts. I looked at Huntleyracing and Elgin cams, neither page tells what else I need to switch out besides the lifters.

prior to DEVEK, i was a customer of the existing 928 suppliers and signed up for the autothority 425 hp cam and chip kit and had confirmation by two leading 928 that it was worth the $8K I spend on the whole thing.

Being an engineer, I did dyno my 928 prior and post....a whopping gain of 10 rwhp for eight grand! And this is not the real bad part.

Live and learn, however, after aobut 10 months and close to 30,000 miles, the welded cams came apart and shreeded the lifters! Back to the sources...they claimed it was the oil I was using and promised that if I were to have them welded again, and used Redline oil...all would be fine and dandy...and it would only cost me a palty $1200 for the reweld and another 2K for the install. Better than the $3K I was quoted for stock cams or $4K fot the gt camset.

It gets better, after about 20,000 miles, it happened again...you know, that tick tick tick that just will not go away. result - came apart again, and this time ruined the Whole engine! Bores scored, lifters done, pistons scraped, etc.

When this happened, we decided that DEVEK will became the player in the 928 perforamnce market...with the promise of making products that perform as advertise, are developed on our time and money so that no customer will have a failure due to them being a test mule, and finally, a level of quality non present in the then 928 marketplace.

What cams do you want...a set of GT cams are your best bet for reliability and drivability. I have one set available.

Want an aggressive cam that wont idle, but adds almost 50 rqhp to your S4...go to our B1 cam....but beware, it growls and spits and will not idle worth a damn with th estock ecu's and requires a change of valve springs. And, I will add, these cams will not fail...I have personally tested them for 60,000 miles!

Anyway, how is that for an answer?

regards,
Marc
