Default Oil filler coming apart!

I'm completing my intake refurb.

When I clamped a new 'y' tube (looks like 3D graph axes, connects oil filler, secondary vacuum, throttle body) to the side of the oil filler neck I noticed that the plastic tube just slides out!

It's very easy to pull it out, so I'm concerned that it will be a potential source of vacuum leaks if it just slides out with vibration during driving.

Is it meant to do this? The oil filler was one of the few parts I didn't renew (I changed the filler gasket, and the base was not warped) and everything is bolted in now so I would really, really not like to have to take everything apart again.

Could I just secure it with a dab of plastic cement or something?

I was putting the rails back but I'll hold off till I've had the usual brilliant advice from here.

I'd just clean it up real good, then use some hi-temp RTV to glue it back together.

Adrian.............I'd attempt to repair the existing unit with 'super glue'.

I got a new filler with my intake kit; my biggest fear was the piece that sits above the crank coming loose and falling in...........yikes!

Report back on the super glue. I'm dubious.

Don't have this on MY 85' but on the second pic it looks like there is a rubber O ring on the inlet side. If so I would replace it or fab something on the male end. Glue is not a good fix esp.when trying to repair in the future.

That's what I was thinking. If you use some kind of gasket sealer or RTV it will seal it and hold it there, but it can be pulled out later if you have to. OTOH if it's not ever supposed to come out...

I am in the middle of the intake refresh on my '88 and mine just slipped out as well. Doesn't look like there is anything holding it in.

I would like to know if this is right as well.

Mine pulled out of my '90 during my intake R&R, it's just clamped to the tri-Y hose and stuck back in there. What happens to this connection on boosted cars?

Same thing happened on my '88. The amount of vacuum present there is not that much to start with, but still, it was something I wanted to block off.. some blue silicone sealer did it for me.

Thanks Greg but I think the o-ring is a trick of the light falling on greasy surface but I'll double check later.

Interesting that this part has let others down!

BTW what is the actual function of the tri-hose? Is it just to collect fumes and send them to the carbon canister? Why is there a connection to the throttle body?

Sounds like I should try gasket sealant or blue sealant (presumably same thing used for locking threads?).

I think he's referring to something like Hondabond, not threadlocker. That's what I'd use.

Thanks for correcting me Mike. Can add this to problems caused by plastic parts under the hood (see hot water control valve).

That's a shocker Malcolm. At least that component looked secure on mine when I changed the gasket!
