I currently have Progressive and full coverage is around $790 a year, with the 928 being a pleasure vehicle with the multi-car discount. I spoke with a representative today from Hagerty and I qualify for the exotic plan with an agreed value of $15000 and the annual premium should be around $350.

I've heard good thing about Hagerty and am thinking of making the switch.

Jim speaks wisely on this controversial topic. You'll never really know how good your policy is until you try to collect on it. And it's seldom what you want or expect (unless the agent is your son-in-law and the claims adjuster is your daughter...heaven help you if your mother in law is involved!). Being in any kind of wreck is usually a lose-lose situation. The car can never really be repaired to as it was before and replacing with like car from the payout is not common at all. All policies are great until you have to make a claim. Also, costs may vary widely...but there's a reason for that....probably in the fine print somewhere.

A search of Rennlist of previous posts on this topic will uncover some war stories.

Three years ago, I spent a lot of time comparing policies, coverages, pricing, etc.etc. and followed up recommendations from Rennlist, tried to get a price break on 6 vehicles and the house..and found that opinions and experiences varied a lot...with most being POed at their carrier at some point. I gave up getting what I wanted.

I've tried various companies over the years but when I got screwed when my custom pickup got tee-boned by a guy running a traffic light (and he was ticketed) I became cynical. I hate all the companies equally.

That said, it'll be hard to beat Geico's prices..and they do have a custom or classic car policy (with a partner company)...but it's very similar to the other collector car ins companies...Any of the company's lawyers have spent a much longer time agonizing and tweaking the fine print of their policy than you will in reading and trying to interpret it. And, an agent's prior "word" does not count when a claim is made.

Yes...I'm getting cynical.

That said, there are usually a few Rennlisters who sell Ins who have a different perspective.

BTW, didn't Washington state pass a new car insurance law this year to keep companies from scalping those making claims? The ins companies spent millions of $$ trying to defeat that law (guess why?) I never heard if the Ins companies and lobbiests won or not.

Drive softly and avoid accidents and all will be well.
